1.0. Introduction The Postgraduate Diploma in Education (PGDE) programme is fully accredited by National Council for Higher Education (NCHE).
2.0. Programme Rationale
The programme is aimed at providing participants with the requisite pedagogical knowledge skills and professional values, to be more effective and competent teachers, lecturers or trainers. Thus, the main focus is to equip participants with good pedagogical practices in the design, delivery and evaluation of curricula; Equipping participants with critical self-reflection in relation to current National and international trends and challenges in pedagogy; Enabling participants to become familiar with the delivery of curricula to a variety of students, through several of delivery approaches, in a wide-range of contexts.
3.0. Programme Aim
The PGDE of Muni University is aimed at providing participants with the requisite pedagogical knowledge and skills to be more effective and competent teachers, lecturers or trainers. Thus, the main focus is to equip participants with good pedagogical practices in the design, delivery and evaluation of curricula.
4.0. Learning outcomes
Graduates of this programme can: [1] Design curricula including learning and teaching methodologies, assessment strategies and evaluation models in accordance with the set standards; [2] Organize and maintain a learning climate and classroom environment that supports learning and growth. [3] Demonstrate professional growth, competence, values, reflection, and evaluation [4] Integrate and apply appropriate teaching methodology to the subject matter [5] Integrate knowledge, experience, and skills across domains and contexts. [6] Demonstrate practical skills in teaching though hands-on activities. [7] Structure a course, plan how to deliver and select appropriate delivery techniques and monitor students’ uptake. 5.0. Duration of the Programme The programme shall last for two (2) semesters of lectures and examinations and one Recess Term of ten (10) weeks for School Practice. The programme shall be implemented on a day and weekend basis Target Group
6.0. Target Group
The programme targets graduates who have a Bachelor’s Degree (with two teaching subjects) from a recognized institution, but do not possess the professional teacher qualification and are interested in the education profession.
