JOB DESCRIPTION

Part-time Chef Lecturer

POST REF: 25106

LOCATION OF THE POST WITHIN THE COLLEGE STRUCTURE:


The post holder will be assigned to the Department of Hospitality & Catering.

REPORTS TO:
The Curriculum Area Manager who will be responsible in the first instance for the teaching
timetable.

FUNCTIONAL LINKS WITH:

3) Course Coordinators within the Department
4) Business support colleagues within curriculum areas
5) Additional learning support officers
6) Progress coaches

OVERALL PURPOSE OF THE POST:


1) To make a significant contribution to the effective delivery of the curriculum, in line with
the College’s Quality Improvement Strategy.
2) To ensure a high quality and relevant learning experience for all students on the
course/s.
3) To co-ordinate the setting, monitoring and reporting of student performance.
4) To provide effective co-ordination of the course/s, ensuring that appropriate College
policies and procedures are followed.
5) To contribute to the administrative work of the team.
6) To follow and apply all current food safety legislation in the workplace.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

In the first instance, your duties and responsibilities are as listed below. As the needs of the
College change, you will be expected to take on, or drop, responsibilities as directed by the
Head of Faculty or Curriculum Area Manager.

1) To teach Hospitality and Catering related subjects at any of the centres utilised by the
College.

2) To develop programmes of study to meet the particular needs of client groups served by
the College.

3) To assess students in accordance with the requirements of the programme and to


contribute to systems of quality and advice.

4) To assist in the effective organisation of the department by the proper establishment of


such syllabuses, schemes of work and records as may be necessary from time to time.

5) To keep all necessary class registers and lists of students and records of their work,
engaging in such clerical work directly associated with the enrolment and registration of
students and the maintenance of classes, as may be required.

6) To ensure that each learner has completed an Initial Assessment, Induction and
accessed their Individual Learning Plan in Promonitor.

7) To monitor and assess students in accordance with the requirements of the programme
and to contribute to the Quality Improvement Strategy, including Internal/External
Verification.

8) To ensure effective and appropriate learning support is provided for students on the
course.

9) To participate in course evaluation and marketing as necessary.

10) To attend and contribute to department meetings where reasonably practicable.

11) Develop and maintain Hospitality and Catering employer relationships

Curriculum and Student Management:

1) To contribute to curriculum development, design and delivery in response to changing


requirements and new demands.

2) To ensure that the course/s of students are effectively delivered in line with Awarding
Body requirements.

3) To assist the Progress Coach in an effective tutorial programme as outlined in the


College’s tutorial policy and guidelines, including acting as a personal tutor, adding
curriculum detail to student reviews and completion of records of learning and
achievement.

4) To ensure that learners health and safety is safeguarded and that Government themes
are embedded within the curriculum and in teaching and learning.

5) To ensure the student inclusion procedure is implemented in line with College


guidelines.

6) To conduct student interviews, attend Open Days/Evening Events and to manage the
admissions/enrolment process for the course/s in liaison with the College’s Admissions
staff.

7) To work with the Head of Faculty, Curriculum Area Manager and course team members
in providing management information and ensuring the completion of necessary
administration procedures.

8) To set and monitor targets for student enrolment, attendance, punctuality, retention and
achievement, and report on these factors as required.

9) To develop and manage the innovative use of course materials and resources, including
ILT/VLE.

10) To attend and contribute to area meetings.

GENERAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The post holder is required to:

1) Perform his/her duties in accordance with the College’s Equality Policy, undertaking
mandatory training as required by the College.

people and vulnerable adults, undertaking mandatory training as required by the
College.

6) Ensure that teaching and learning is at a high standard in line with OFSTED criteria, and
that he/she is committed to making any improvements necessary to raise the standard
of their teaching and learning.

7) Undertake Continuous Professional Development (CPD) relevant to his/her post.

8) Demonstrate core competencies as required by the role.

9) Demonstrate commitment to the College’s whole organisational approach to improving


standards of literacy, numeracy and language in line with the national Skills for Life
Strategy.

10) Perform any other duties as may be reasonably required from time to time by the
Principal and Chief Executive, through the Head of Department.

SPECIAL FEATURES OF THE POST:

The post holder will work in an environment of constant change and pressure where an
amount of personal decision-making and judgement is required.

The post holder must have the ability to work with a wide range of people of all ages from
very different backgrounds with very different needs and to respond accordingly to support
those needs.

The duties and responsibilities attached to this role demand a flexible approach to work,
which will include occasional evenings.
