WHO I AM: TRUE BEAUTY COMES FROM WITHIN

“I am not who I think I am. I am not who you think I am. I am who I think I am.” Everyone
has their own unique physical appearance. The best way I would describe my appearance is
that I am a 17 years old Filipina with a soulful dark brown eyes. I am 5’0 feet tall with an average
body type neither fat nor thin. My complexion characteristic is tan. My hair characteristic is a
long straight black hair. I always want to style my hair by braiding it or putting some hair
accessories like assorted colored ribbons. I always wear a simple make up for me to look fresh
every time. On my face, I have small moles in my right cheek and I have a scar on my left
temporal due to accident 10 years ago. I hide my scar by covering it by my hair it’s not that I
don’t have enough confidence to show it but it’s really an eye catching when I interact with other
people they will ask about it. On my normal day, I would like to wear shorts, a cute flip flops and
an extra big t-shirt but when I need to go out I really dress fashionably.
Personality provides great insight into people and their lives. My personality consists of
different characteristic traits and habits which help me make a decent human being. I like to
look at myself as a genuine and thoughtful young lady. I’m a hard worker; I believe nothing is
ever handed to you so you have to go get it. I worked hard to get to this point of my life and
working even harder to get to the successful and graduate part of my life. I care more for some
others than I do myself like helping my friends with their problems, giving food to homeless
people and taking care of my family. I don’t really show anger or sadness much I always smile
because I’m optimistic about life. I look at life as if something bad comes along, no need to dwell
on it you can’t take it back so you just need to move on and improve your mistakes.
“The best and most beautiful things in the world cannot be seen or even touched- they
must be felt with the heart.” A quote made by Helen Keller, a quote that makes me believes that
true beauty comes from within. Nowadays, physical attributes are important to people
especially in this generation. Philippines used to consider flat noses to be attractive but now
because of the influence of other countries this beauty standard had changed. For you to be
acknowledge as beautiful you must have a fair skin, long straight black hair, tall nose and eyes
that is preferably slanted. Yes, having this physical attributes will tell that you are beautiful but
only on the outer self but not in your inner self. For me, beauty starts within the heart and soul.
What makes a person beautiful is in the inside not on the outside. What do I mean about that? A
person is considered beautiful if she/ he have a big heart. A person who is compassionate and
helpful to those who are in need. A person who is selfless and generous. A person who shows
loving kindness and not self-centered. A person who is willing to share what she/he has no
matter how small or how little is it. That for me is what makes a person beautiful. Having said
that, beauty can be an advantage but in the end it will still be our politeness and good deed that
will stand out. As they say “BEAUTY fades” but when you have a BIG HEART especially for the
less privilege then you will sure STAND OUT.
As a millennial, I hold myself to high standards and knowing that I was comparing myself
to other people made me feel less beautiful. It made me less confident and it led me down the
road of self-destruction. My mind was filled with what I could do and rather that what I am doing
now. I turned on the song Beautiful by Christina Aguilera and started singing and dancing and
all that I was worried about was gone. My mind became clear. I can say that I am beautiful
because I’m a kind hearted, selfless, helpful, cheerful, compassionate, generous and loving
person. For me good attitude is essential to every human being. So I can say I MAY NOT HAVE
A PRETTY FACE BUT I AM CONFIDENTLY BEAUTIFUL WITH A HEART.
“Your beauty should not come from outward adornment, such as elaborate hairstyles
and wearing gold jewelry or fine clothes. Rather, it should be that of your inner self, the unfading
beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is of great worth in God’s sight.” 1 Peter 3:3-4 NIV
