To determine Fuel Efficiency of a Tractor Engine using Hydraulic Dynamometer

PROCEDURE:

Connect the P.T.O shaft of the tractor to the Hydraulic Dynamometer. Completely fill the
fuel tank of the tractor engine. Before the engine starts, press the decrease button to close
the sluice gates or do it manually for maximum force to be applied. Use inlet valve to set
the pressure inside the casing to 0.5 psi. Switch on the engine and turn on the stop watch
and note down the engine rpm, PTO rpm and braking force applied by the dynamometer.

Take different readings by increasing the braking force while pressing the increase push
button on the control panel or do it manually with the help of a lever. Now switch off the
engine and stop the stop watch. Note the time and measure the fuel consumed during this
operation.

Now increase the water pressure inside the casing to 1.0 and then to 1.5 and take readings
in the same way as is done in previous applied condition.
For Fuel efficiency we have to find out:

 Fuel consumption rate

 Power produced per unit fuel used.

PRECATIONS:
 Vibration, noise and temperature irregularities rate should be checked carefully,
 Check moving parts loosen,
 Check zero point of weight dial balance.
