BACKGROUND: Gloria and Teddy are both biological sisters and they have one brother who
stays in a foster family in Jinja. Their father died of HIV/AIDS after he had long divorced with
their mother. They were brought to Siita Nest home by the Local Council authorities after the
death of the father and they were registered in the home through the Probation’s office of
Jinja.

siblings joined Siita Nest home in 2004.

BACKGROUND: Her parents divorced and the father married another wife who mistreated her.
The local authorities got concerned of the situation and they decided to recommend Junica to
Siita Nest home.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION:
Josephine was abandoned by both her parents when she was still very young and she was left
under the care of her vulnerable grandmother who is both blind and lame suffering with
diabetes and hypertension. They used to stay in a small grass thatched house with 11 other
children. Josephine was malnourished due to the poor living conditions characterized with poor
feeding. They could even go without food for a number of days. Due to hypertension, the
grandmother developed stroke making her more vulnerable to take care of her grand children.
Josephine was therefore brought to Siita Nest through the recommendation of another project
that closed down so that she can continue to get good care and support.

Background: Gloria is a victim of family breakdown. Her father and mother separated and the father got
another wife who mistreated Gloria to the point of death. Gloria was brought to Siita Nest for proper
care and support.

Background: Hope is a child from a Muslim dysfunctional family. Her mother ran mad during
the delivery of their young sister. The father married another wife after realizing that Hope’s
mother was mad.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION: Their mother died because of acid which was poured on her
by a woman who is believed to be a co wife of their father. Their mother was rushed to hospital
and she passed away three days later. Both the woman that poured acid and their father were
imprisoned leaving the five children with their grandmother who was also in shock because of
the death of her daughter. The grandmother too was hospitalized for a year because of a
stroke. This situation left the children with no helper and two days after the burial of their
mother. While at Siita Nest they have gone through thorough counseling to enable them heal
psychologically and also to be able to forgive both their father and step mother.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION: Father is a Muslim who has so many wives. Their mother
separated with their father due to domestic violence in the home leaving them with another
step mother who tortured and abused them on a daily basis. They survived death on several
occasions due to the mistreatment that their step mother ministered on them daily. The
neighbors got concerned and informed both the local authorities and police who came and
saved the children. The step mother was imprisoned and the children were recommended to
Siita Nest. Through Siita nest Support, they have received psycho-social support, good care and
education and now they are in the process of recovery.

Background: Gladys’s father used to drink excessively and he used not to care of the family and
the children were not in school. One day he drunk a lot and fell along the road on his way back
home. He could not help himself and so he died. Gladys’s mother is just a peasant who cannot
help her children.

Background: Mother died of HIV/AIDS. Olivia was 3 ½ years old and William was 6 years. They
were left under the care of their father who is also HIV positive and always bed ridden. After
failing to take good care of his children due to sickness, the father sought support from Siita
Nest mother’s love home. While at Siita Nest, they were taken for an HIV/AIDS test and the
results came out negative. Therefore both kids are healthy and receiving the necessary support.

Background: Mary’s parents separated and she was left with her grandmother since the step
father could not allow staying with both of them. Because of the child sacrifice on the village
and poor state of the grandmother, therefore Mary was brought to Siita Nest.

Background: Mother died while giving birth to their last born. Their father is a drunkard who
used to bit their mother daily. When the mother died the father chased all the children away
from home and they went to their grandmother who is of age and needy. Thus their
grandmother sought support from Siita Nest mother’s Love and here at Siita Nest the children
have been able to receive all the necessary support.

Background: Hassan’s mother died of HIV/AIDS while he was still young. His mother never
talked of Hassan’s father and when she died Hassan was taken by his maternal grandmother.
While with his grandmother, used not to go to school because the situation there was not good,
they used even to go without food and if they happen to eat, they eat one meal a day. The
situation worsened and that is when Hassan’s uncle came and sought help from Siita Nest
home where Hassan is happily staying now.

Background: Jollyne and Mercy were abandoned by their mother. They were both attacked by
jiggers and the grandmother could not even afford a soft pin to remove the jiggers. Their father
was imprisoned and that is where he is until today. They used not to go to school, food was also
a problem because they used to survive on ants and wild animals. They had no good clothes
and on several occasions the probation wanted to rescue the kids but the grandmother could
hide them fearing that the kids were going to be sold and be killed for sacrifice until a police
lady went and talked to the grandmother and she accepted to bring the children to Siita Nest
where they are now living in good life and attending education.

Background: Jerusha is from a dysfunctional family. Her mother and father were both school
going students and they left Jerusha with her grandmother who could not take care of her basic
needs. With the care and support from Siita Nest, Jerusha is able to get her basic needs.

Background: Naomi is from a dysfunctional family. She was born to a school going father and
her mother is unknown. Naomi came to Siita Nest on an extended family basis.

The situation was not good therefore she was brought to Siita Nest on an extended family basis
so as to receive better care and support.

to get Siita Nest support through the community program but due to intimidation by her step
mother she was brought to Siita Nest for safety and care.

not take care of these two boys due to old age and so they sought help from Siita Nest home
for support.
