Introduction

Background of the Study

Water pump is a mechanical device that is designed to circulate coolant

through water-cooled engines. Although not all water–cooled engines use water pumps, these

components are the heart of nearly all modern water cooling systems. Water pumps are

typically driven via the rotation of the crankshaft. The water pumps are commonly used to

increase water pressure for residential or commercial purposes. They are used to transport

water pressure by the energy used by them. Water pumps are applicable in almost every

sector such as household, agriculture and manufacturing. Water pumps are also used for

industrial purposes and even to circulate water in the cooling system of automobile engines.

In any case, the rotation of the pump shaft is used to induce the circulation of

fluid through the cooling system. The internal workings of a water pump vary widely from

one design to another, and they can functions as a scroll pumps, centrifugal pumps, and

others.

There are several types of pump used in various applications. Some of these

pumps include the vacuum pumps, trash pumps, hydraulic pumps, sump pumps, and the

water pumps. Vacuum type of pump vents the gas from a sealed volume and leaves a partial

vacuum behind. It is typically used by operators in order to create low to high vacuums and it

is applied in industries where vacuum is required.

Researchers aim to make a Water Pump and wanted to use plastic container

and old CD’s that can be used in our daily life.

Research Paradigm

Basically, this study utilized to find out if plastic container and old CD’s are possible

as the main materials in making the Improvised Water Pump.

The figure below shows the conceptual paradigm of the study entitled “Improvised

Water Pump” using Input, Process and Output. The input includes the materials that are used,

the process shows the step procedure of the study, and the output shows or displays the result

after the researchers perform the procedures.

Statement of the Problem

Generally, this investigatory project aim to find out if the used of plastic

containers and old CD’s are possible in making the improvised water pump. Specifically, it

aims to answer the following question:

1. How the power pump described in terms of the following:

1.1 Quality?

1.2 Durability?

Scope and Delimitation

The concern of this study is to produce water pump out of plastic

containers and old CD’s. The researchers will use the plastic containers and the old CD’s as

the main materials in making the improvised water pump. The respondents of the study were

chosen in Sto. Tomas La Union.

Formulation of Hypothesis

H0: There is no significant difference between the water pump and the commercial water

pump.

Ha: There is a significant difference between the water pump and the commercial water

pump.
DEFINITION OF TERMS

 Improvised water pump – is a product out of plastic container and old CD’s

 Quality – it refers to the standard of something as measured against other things of a

similar kind

 Durability – it refers to the ability of something to withstand for a long period of

time

SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY

 To the HOUSEHOLD MEMBERS. It was an advantage to them because this study

will help them make a water pump that avoids human strain and it is easy to them to

function it because of the switch present in the water pump.

 To the CONSUMERS. This study will help you make your own water pump using

recycled material that can be seen in our surroundings like plastic containers and old

CD’s.

 To the FUTURE RESEARCHERS. They can use it to get some idea for what they

can do in their future research subject. They can use it to make a study about water

pumps and to make some kind of water pump. It can also give them more knowledge

about water pump

METHODOLOGY

Research Design

. The respondents were randomly picked from different households at Sto. Tomas La Union.

Source of Data

To study the acceptability of plastic container and old CD’s as the main materials in

making the improvised water pump, stratified random sampling is used. Stratified random

sampling divides a population into subgroups or strata, and random samples are taken, in

proportion to the population, from each of the strata created.

The respondents will rate the improvised water pump based from the legend shown in

table 2.

 CD’s  Glue Gun
 DC Motor  Soldering Iron
 Wires  Metal Saw
 Small Container  Paint and Paintbrush
 12V Battery  pipe

 vulca seal

Procedure

1) Cut the half part of the toothpick container. Using the soldering iron make a hole at the

side part of the container then a small hole at the bottom of the of the container for the

DC motor.

2) Using the metal saw, saw the bottom part of a two syringe and a slant cut at the top

part of the one syringe.

3) Put one syringe at the hole at the centre of the CD then make sure that it is fitted

correctly. Then, use glue gun to connect the syringe to the other syringe.

4) In making turbine, make a circular shape in an iron sheet then make at least elises or a

small blade-shape using a pipe then make a small hole and then put the elises using

glue gun.

5) Put the DC motor at the container then put the turbine.

6) Using a glue gun connect the container and the CD with syringes.

7) Put the last syringe at the hole at the of the container

8) After that, paint the container and the CD together with the syringes.

9) Connect the wires of the e DC motor to a 12V battery to make the water pump work.
