DISCUSSION
Human, as defined by Oxford, is an individual
of the species Homo sapiens, distinguished from
other animals by superior mental development. It
is the only specie that has the capability to think
rationally. The human person has the autonomy
to make choices which may enable the flourishing
of oneself and society. With this era’s situation,
the flourishing of most humans was all influenced
by technology. Technology generally improved
the quality of life.
Even from the beginning, the technologies
invented make human lives easy. For an instance,
the invention of plow of Sumerian had been a
great help in agriculture in the ancient age. With
today’s technology, it is evident that it plays a
huge part in almost all aspects of life---
communication, transportation, medicine and
many more. However, not all of the effects of
technology to those aspects are good.

In the book Technology versus Humanity,

Gerd Leonhard says, “Humanity will change more
in the next 20 years than the previous 300 years”
because of technology. It’s been estimated that
technology has taken over 90 percent of the jobs
that humans used to do in the past 100 years. It is
alarming especially for the future generation.
One should note that humans create technology
not to be enslaved by it. Thus, we must reflect
and take action.
