products are very similar, you will gain only limited knowledge and inspiration for your own project, because most
products will lead to the same conclusions. It is likely that your inspiration will not only come from products that are
similar to what you have in mind. Quite different products may have features that inspire you as well.
💋 Review the high-level example and the rubric (below) to ensure you have enough detail.

PMI analysis | Plus, Minus, Interesting

The command term a nalyze is defined as:

“Break down in order to bring out the essential elements or structure.”

In this task, this means conducting a PMI analysis for the products you identified in your inspiration board.

Tips for analysis:
● Evidence that you looked closely at the site of the pin
● Identified properties of the products (size, shape, style, functional effectiveness, appropriate for fabric,
appropriate for your skill level, appropriateness for the client)
● Bullet points but full sentences
● Explain why it is a strength/challenge/interesting point

Analyze s trengths (plus) of the products. In your analysis clearly identify and explain specific features that
⊕  make the product successful.

💗 They seem like they are pretty easy. Because they don’t have a lot of complicated

💗
💗
steps which is good because my skill level isn’t very high
You can create eye masks with a lot of different designs and patterns
Most of these products use cotton which is a convenient material to use since I

💗 have a lot of old cotton garments at home which can be used for this,
Cotton is an easily accessible material which is also good to use since it’s not
only durable but also soft and comfortable which will be good since I am using it

💗 on my face
Sewing is not the only way to create these eye masks you can also use other
alternatives like gluing or using velcro. The end product will not be identical if

💗 I did it with another technique but it will be similar and serve the same purpose.
A lot of the materials I might be needing like Thread, needles, buttons, rotary
cutter, velcro, sewing machine, elastic, spray adhesive will be accessible at
school.

Analyze weaknesses (minus) of the products. In your analysis clearly identify and explain specific features
⊖
that make the product less successful.

💗 Some of the eye masks require objects and materials that I might not have access

💗 to like silk, felt, rice or herbs

A few of these products have complex and/or complicated designs, patterns that I

💗 may not be able to recreate with my limited skill level.

I may not be able to recreate some of the eye mask products because I am using an
upcycled garment from home which may not be able to fit some of the descriptions

💗 of the materials needed to create the products

Since the colour of my garment is pretty lights it might get dirty easily so you
would have to wash it more often

Outline all take-aways (interesting) you have gained for your project by analyzing the products.
ℹ  Take-aways are Ideas that are worth remembering for later in the project.

💗 These eye masks can have a lot of different designs. Like embroidery, different

💗
💗
patterns
You can put various things inside eye masks like rice, cotton, herbs
Some of the products have words and added designs on them which is kind of cool
since they are unique and aren’t like most of that type of product. Some can even

💗 be tie-dyed
Eye Masks are kind of restricted the area around your eyes and you lower forehead
but can still be made to fit different shapes some are rectangular, some
rectangular with rounded sides, some with a cut out at the bottom to make space
for your nose, some are even shaped like an animal e.x an owl

Choose and justify a project plan

Select one of the products from your inspiration board and justify the choice for this product to design in the next
stage of the design cycle.

Your justification must address the following elements:

Why did you choose this product over the others in your inspiration board? E
xplain how it is appropriate for:
💗Tilly and the buttons how to make an eye mask💗

💕
This product is appropriate for
Your client(Myself):This product is something I’ll like because it's
appropriate for me. It’s appropriate because this product is used to relax and
sleep, sleeping is not only an activity I enjoy but also and activity that is
crucial and important to one's well being and a sleeping mask is a product that
can assist and help with achieving further relaxation.

💕 The fabric you chose: The fabric I chose is a 50/50 mix between cotton and
modal. This fabric is appropriate because cotton( a non synthetic chemically
organic textile from cotton plants )and modal( a semi synthetic textile with
cellulose and made from beech trees)have a lot of good things about them. Cotton
and Modal are both very soft, breathable and durable.

💕 Your skill level:This is appropriate for my skill level because the process of
making these products is not very complicated. From the guides and instructions
I can see that there are not that many steps. The steps mostly contain cutting
out up to 4 pieces of fabric and elastic and using sewing or gluing them with a
pattern to create a basic eye mask (can be more complicated if chosen to add
decor or more complex pattern).
