SECONDARY RESEARCH
Based on the factors identified which are endogenous and exogenous in nature collected during the secondary and primary phases, our in-house subject matter
experts will transform quantitative data extraction and use them for the inferential purpose.
The market size estimations were carried out through ‘Bottom-up’ & ‘Top-down’ approaches.
Our top-down and bottom-up approaches are integrated into our ‘In-house Model sheets’ which are used to generate the market estimates and growth rates
(depending upon the historical trends of the respective markets along with the various factors like drivers, restraints and recent developments in the market) of the
product segment in the respective country.
• Data Triangulation (A process of combining findings from different sources to increase the validity and
reliability of the results. This process also helps strengthen conclusions about findings and reduce the risk of
false interpretations)
The attained insights from both secondary and primary are analyzed and validated by the process of data
triangulation to arrive at closer estimates.
• Econometric Modelling (An econometric model is a simplified representation of a real world process. Here,
the tools of econometric theory are used for the analysis and forecasting of economic phenomenon and to
solve unknown quantities such as forecasted demand, supply, investment, production, consumption etc.)
• Report Writing: After the data is curated, analysts write the report. From data and forecasts, insights are
drawn to visualize the entire ecosystem in a single report.

Market Challenges
• The growth of the UAV market could be affected by certain major challenges during the forecast period. These factors include strict airspace regulations across major countries,
such as the United States, where the FAA pioneered in setting regulations for commercial use of drones in the region.
• Certifications in terms of manufacturing standards have also been drafted by most countries, which further affects the exports of UAVs and their components worldwide. For
instance, in the United States, electronics that are responsible for communications and control must comply with DO-254 and DO-178C for software and hardware development.
• Several countries have laws that restrict and prevent unmanned aircraft from flying few miles beyond the operator’s location. In China, the armed forces control half of the
airspace, thus confining UAVs to a small area of the country, similar to the United States. In the United States, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) governs all commercial
drone use, while few states have their own regulations that companies who deploy UAVs have to navigate through. In addition to FAA certification, regulations on the usage of
drones by government authorities for law enforcement purposes is determined at a state level.
• Though flying a drone is legal in the United States, according to the U.S. Federal Aviation Authority (FAA), there are certain regulations that guide the commercial usage of
drones in the country. There are different sets of rules for foreigners, hobbyists, and those who are flying these drones for work purposes. These regulations may restrict the free
usage of drones by hobbyists.
• To fly a drone for commercial purposes in the United States, one must obtain a Remote Pilot Certificate from the FAA. To obtain the certification, there are certain requirements
that must be met. Stringency of the requirements and the regulations for usage may vary from time to time in the country, and thereby, affecting the market dynamics to a small
extent.
• Likewise, under the local law of South Korea, drones for commercial use require registration with the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, and Transport. An operator’s license is
required for drones weighing 12 kilograms (26 pounds) or more, which will be used for commercial purposes. Drones are banned from many places in the country, such as the
northern parts of Seoul where government offices are clustered. The areas around military installations are also no-fly zones.
• Nevertheless, advancement in cyber security systems and growing application of UAVs in several applications may result in some countries altering some of their regulations,
which can further propel the UAV market’s growth.
• The Porter’s five forces model studies the five identified competitive forces
that shape every industry and market, in order to determine the intensity of
the competition, and thus, the profitability and attractiveness of the industry.

The use of drones for commercial application is set to rise in United States, with corporate giants,
like Amazon, Google, Walmart, and Uber, planning to use drones for deliveries in the coming
years, and thus, increasing the registrations of drones for commercial usage.
According to the FAA, in 2018, the number of non-model owner registrations was more than
175,000, with a monthly registration rate of about 15,000. This rate of 15,000 registration per
month, which is approximately thrice more than the rate of registrations in 2017. Similarly, model
