RESEARCH METHOD AND DESIGN

This study is conducted in St. Alphonsus Catholic School High School Department, a
private sectarian school located in Poblacion, Lapu-Lapu City, Cebu which is currently
managed by the DOLSH Sisters and has been accredited as level 3 in PAASCU accreditation.
In this study, the researchers needed all grade level sections in Junior High School (Grade
7-Grade 10) as our respondents.

The methodological approach used is the qualitative method and survey is the method used
of data collection. It requires the gathering of data from research questionnaires which
answers from the direct respondents. Data gathering is more efficient in this method and
can test the hypothesis based on the statistics of the given result. Macro effects also can be
determined in formulas and thus can easily test the effectivity of the research since it is
numerical. Pre-survey is the method used in this kind of research to have different opinions
and perspectives combined with related studies on the internet regarding the topic which
is used to strengthen the base the final survey and the hypothesis, results are numerically
checked to proceed to the final survey.

Pre-Survey
There are a total of 160 pre-survey questionnaires prepared. It is divided equally among
the grade levels with homogeneous sectioning (Grade 7-10).
Pre-survey questionnaires per grade level = 160/4
= 40
40 random students from each grade level are chosen as respondents for the pre-survey

Final Survey

The population of the study is the total number of students in grade levels with
homogeneous sectioning (Grade 7-10). The data is written below:
Grade 7 Grade 8 Grade 9 Grade 10
(8 sections) (9 sections) (9 sections) (8 sections)

Benevolence- 49 Courage- 48 Counsel- 47 Accuracy- 46

Courtesy- 49 Diligence- 48 Compassion- 50 Efficiency- 47

Sincerity- 50 Vigilance- 48 Understanding- 46 Resiliency- 45
Zeal- 48 Wisdom- 47
Total: 396 Total: 436 Total: 423 Total: 370
The population size (N) = 396 + 436 + 423 + 370
N = 1635

The sample size is taken using Slovin’s formula. The data is written below:

The sample size (n) = 321

The sample size is divided among the total number of sections in grade levels with
homogeneous sectioning (Grade 7-10) to get the number of respondents per section. The
date is written below.

The total number of sections = 8 + 9 + 9 + 9

= 34
The remaining 3 respondents is distributed to Grade 8, Grade 9, and Grade 10.

Therefore, 3 of the sections in Grade 7 have 10 respondents and the 5 remaining sections
have 9 respondents. In Grade 8, 4 of the sections have 10 respondents and the 5 remaining
sections have 9 respondents. In Grade 9, 4 of the sections have 10 respondents and the 5
remaining sections have 9 respondents. In Grade 10, 4 of the sections have 10 respondents
and the 4 remaining sections have 9 respondents.

The table of the number of students is written below:

Grade Level Number of Sections Number of Sections

(10 respondents) (9 respondents)
Grade 7 3 5
Grade 8 4 5
Grade 9 4 5
Grade 10 4 4
The respondents per section are chosen using the Kth Term Sampling Method with
intervals. It is ensured that none of the respondents of the pre-survey questionnaire are
repeated or chosen again to avoid biases.

Opinions, presumptions, theories and data pieces of information from different sources
were shared and gathered. It has been analyzed thoroughly, to be of use in conducting the
problem of the study. The formulation of hypothesis, analysis of hypothesis, determining
the design of the study and countless times researching in the library, probing data from
articles and books, as well as assimilating shared opinions from the respondents serve as
the basis to solve the problem and answer a lot of questions to be addressed to.

The formulas used in the study are the following:
