Does your personality change as you get older?

It is often said that we set our primary personality traits in our youth and do not change as we
age. However, does not the human being go through several changes as they pass by life? As
far as I am concerned the experiences we face are only for our self-grow, including changes in
our personality.

The major reason I believe that personality changes is because it is formed by everything we
do in life. As we endure distinct changes through life, we face new hardships and successes.
Eventually, these experiences will teach us what does and what does not work in life, setting
up our personality. For instance, a person may have struggled with self-confidence when he
was a teenager. As he grows up, experience in life gives him the wisdom to understand his
worth.

Nevertheless, the personality does not change to a point where is barely recognisable as we
age. Our basic personality features remain constant through all our lives, however, with
alterations as we grow old. To illustrate, a person might have been very dedicated to success in
school as he was a child. As he grows up, the desire to excel is still in him but in a changed
form, related to college or a job.

To sum up, I definitely think that personality changes as we get older. This is because we
endure changes and experiences throughout life and we learn from them, building up our
personality based on our basic personality traits. As a result, we become the person we
already are, in a more developed form.
