Primary Source

In order to help back up my information for my research paper, I decided to try and find a

primary source that included a lot of new information that I had not been informed with the

research I have already done. After looking for many newspaper articles and not being able to

decide I thought I would change it up and try to find a youtube video. I came across the video I

have chosen above and thought it was perfect. Throughout the video, they provide a lot of

information based on an article by the New York Times. At the beginning of the video, they

provide pictures of the beautiful places around the world and those images look very peaceful

and nice. I feel like the editor did that in order to give people an idea of what they should want

for our world. This is able to set an example and give people the motivation to make changes in

order to help better our environment. It was very surprising to find out the fact that “our average

temperature of the surface of the planet has already increased 1.7 degrees since 1880” this video

was made in 2005 which makes me think that the number has already increased much more. This

video provides the viewer with the perspective of why changes need to be made. One of the

biggest points in my paper is the fact that we need to care because our decisions are what reflect

on future generations. Those generations could be our kids or our friend’s kids and the choices

we make now really do matter. This video brings more awareness into that and the fact that

throughout the time the disasters could become worse and worse causing many disasters such as

melting polar ice caps and much more. This video is making statements of what already is

occurring in our current world. So many polar bears have become in danger and started to look
for new resources as a way of protein because everything is beginning to dry out. The video s

able to provide a worst-case scenario and one of the main points given was the fact that climate

change could cause food production to decrease and causing lands to dry out. In the long run that

could lead to increasing prices in food production and much more.

If it comes down to prices increasing in food and production decreasing in the video it

states the fact that people could become more violent and cause a lot of social problems as well.

This has made me think of another point I need to provide in my paper because it has a negative

effect on our health as well. The video, states the fact that we are looking at an ocean ride of “80

to 160 feet” and they make it clear that climate change will cause the oceans to rise but the speed

that it rises depends on us the people. All of this information will be accessed in order to help

back up my points throughout my paper. I really enjoyed the fact that the video answered many

questions people could have and one of them was involving scientists and if we should trust their

information. This is a valued point I could think about addressing because many people could

think that the scientist are not giving reliable predictions on what could occur in the future. This

also gives me a great reminder to make sure to do research on the sources I use for my paper. I

personally believe that we should trust the predictions that the scientist are providing and giving

us because even if it is not true I think it is better to be safe then sorry. We should begin to

prepare ourselves for the worst just how the video brings awareness to climate change and what

comes along with it I think more people should do the same. We need more awareness of

situations that could potentially happen if people do not make positive changes for the

environment.
 I chose this video as my source because after watching it, it made me want to make a

change. It gave me a great explanation of climate change and what could occur in the future

because of it. It makes it known that the people who can prevent it are all of us who are on this

planet and in order to make a change we need to start now before it is too late. It made me realize

that I need to do more for my planet as well. The earth has so much to offer for all of us and we

are slowly destroying it. Although it may not be easy to start organizations or fundraisers, what is

easy is bringing more awareness into the situation and ways one could make a change by

recycling, or picking up trash. We need to be in this together because our future generation is

relying on us. Some of the examples that I enjoyed that they provided where that we could begin

to use more public transportation, or taking fewer airplane trips and eating less meat but I like the

fact that they brought more importance to the fact that we all have a voice so we should use it

and bring more awareness into these situations. Although in order to make a big change we need

everyone to come to an agreement, we all start somewhere. We need to set the example and soon

people will follow along and help make a difference. We also need to make it clear to our

president and house representatives that we know they are ignoring the predictions in their

benefit and they are ignoring the fact that we should be making changes. I plan to make a change

myself by making my family become more informed about climate change and bringing them

along with me to help pick up trash around our neighborhood and local beaches. I feel that many

people are not aware of the natural disasters that are ahead of us due to our irresponsible decision

making. It is affecting us now and will affect our future generations as well.
