CAMPING. is an outdoor activity involving overnight stays
or camping pitch is a place used for overnight
away from home in a shelter, such as a tent, a caravan, or a
motor home. Generally participants leave developed areas to
spend time outdoors in more natural ones in pursuit of
activities providing them enjoyment. To be regarded as
“camping” a minimum of one night is spent outdoors,
distinguishing it from a day tripping, picnicking, and other
similarly short-term recreational activities. Camping can be
enjoyed through all seasons. As recreational activity, camping
became popular among elites in the early 20th century. With
time, it grew more democratic, and varied. Modern campers
frequent publicly owned natural resources such as national
and state parks wilderness areas, and commercial
campgrounds. Camping is a key part of many youth
organizations around the world, such as Scouting, which use
it to teach both self-reliance and teamwork.
FORMS OF CAMPING
ADVENTURE CAMPING. is a form of camping by people who
race (possibly adventure racing or mountain biking) during the
day, and camp in a minimalist way at night. They might use
the basic items of camping equipment such as micro-camping
stove, sleeping bag, and bivouac shelter.
DRY CAMPING. is camping at a site without a reliable pre-
existing water resource, such location are known as dry
camps. Campers must carry their own water in and out of
camp, which requires much more preparation than would
otherwise be required. Dry camping is very common in
deserts, and is often preferred due to the risk of flash floods.
BACKPACKING. affords a maximum wilderness experience.
Specialized gear allows enthusiasts to both enjoy popular
local recreational sports and access the most remote
locations. Technological advance and consumer interest have
led to lighter and more diverse backpacking gear.
Improvements such as titanium cookware, ultra-light wicking
fabric, and heat-molded hip straps make for lighter loads and
enhanced performance. As there is always the possibility to
severe weather and injury in the backcountry, cell and satellite
phones are sometimes carried for emergencies, with varying
coverage. Backpacking may involve riding or being
accompanied by pack animals such as horses, mules, and
llama.
GLAMPING. (glamorous camping) combines camping with
the luxuries of a home or hotel. Across the globe there are
many different types of glamping accommodations available.
You could wake up in a yurt on a mountaintop, reside in the
forest canopy in a tree house, or take in panoramic views in
an eco-lodge. It's much more than a nice tent. There's such
a wide variety of different options ranging from villas, cabins,
lodges, tipis, and tree houses.

CAMPSITE.

pitch a tent or park a camper, a campground may contain
many campsite.

TENT. is a shelter consisting of sheets of fabric or other
material drapped over, attached to a frame of poles or
attached to a supporting rope.
TYPES OF TENT
BASIC RIDGES TENT. They had a pole at each end and
sometimes a cross pole called a ridge holding up a tent-
shaped roof: Hence the name 'ridge tent'. Ridge tents are
remarkably stable and range from tiny one-person tents right
up to large marquees. They are easy to pitch and still make
excellent shelters today. Their main disadvantage is in head
height – even in the largest units there’s limited height in most
of the tent.
DOME TENT. The basic shape bends a flexible pole into a
half circle with both ends fixed to a strong tape or webbing
strap running across the base of the tent, often as part of the
groundsheet. Two flexible poles crossing in the middle give a
square dome, three poles a hexagon. The sides are more
vertical so overall headroom is better across a wider floor
area. Stability is good in smaller models but, unlike the ridge.
GEODESIC AND SEMI – GEODESIC. The term geodesic is
a mathematical one. Originally a ‘geodesic’ line was the
shortest route between two points on earth. Nowadays, it’s
used to describe a tent where the poles criss-cross over the
surface, intersecting to form triangles. This distributes the
stress across the structure, making it the most stable type of
tent for extreme weather conditions.
