Our group decided that we will conduct our community project in Sagip Buhay
Home for the Aged at Bauan, Batangas. We prepared a lot of activities for our Lolas
there. However because of the pandemic outbreak, we’ve only done one session with
them. It made me sad because I’m really looking forward to bond with them every
Saturday but I know that their health is our first priority.

During our first session, I was nervous because it’s my first time but also I am
excited to meet our Lolas. When we arrived almost all the Lolas are having their siesta
but Lola Gloria went out of her room so we were able to talk with her and she happily
shared her story to us. We asked her questions and she answered them joyfully though
she can’t remember everything. Soon after, other Lolas went out and we were able to
bond with them. We prayed altogether with the other OJT’s and we watched them
dance. Some of us danced with them too while others took pictures and selfies. We
really had fun and we even set our plans for our next visit. Unfortunately, it didn’t
happen and I hope that I can still give Lola Gloria the red lipstick that I promised to her.

Our project made me happy because I felt like I was really talking with my own
grandparents. At the same time, I felt sad for their families because they weren’t able to
take care of their mothers. Also I felt sorry for Lola Gloria because she didn’t deserve
the things that happened to her though she made it sound like nothing and normal. Half
day of being with them made me realize a lot of things. I realized that I should never
forget my family and loved ones. I should always allot time with them to talk and listen to
their stories because I know that it’s one way of letting them know how much we love
them. Also, I have to always lend my hands to people like Lola Gloria. Sometimes, just
listening to them is enough. Sharing our time with them is enough to make them feel
loved and appreciated. Life is too short and uncertain that’s why we have to do good
things.
