WALKWAY MEMBER DESIGN

1. INTRODUCTION
The purpose of this worksheet is to check the adequacy of Φ406x16 and Φ219x10 as walkway beams,
located at EL+6741 TOG on the jacket.

2. DESIGN ASSUMPTIONS
2.1 The beams are checked using MATHCAD spreadsheet for the local stress caused by in-service loading.

2.2 Design checks are performed according to AISC - Specification for Structural Steel Buildings, Allowable

7. CONCLUSION
The jacket walkway members were checked for adequacy againt dead loads, a live load of 5 kN/m2 and
against the wave slam force as required by STDS-ST-SPE-1-0001-01-00-00 Section 8.5 and was found to
be adequate.

SECTION 2. GRATING DESIGN

1. INTRODUCTION
The purpose of this design is to check the adequacy of 40x10 jacket walkway grating (conforming to DOTL
Standard drawings) against a live loading of 5kN/m2 and a wave slam force according to Doc STDS-ST-
SPE-1-0001-01- 00-00 Section 4.16 (page 34 of 93). The grating is also checked for a case with an
average corrosion of 5mm.

2. DESIGN ASSUMPTIONS
2.1 The deck gratings are checked using MATHCAD spreadsheet for the local stress caused by in-service
loading.

6. CONCLUSION
The 40x10 steel grating was checked for loading and deflection under a live loading of 5kN/m2 as
required by Doc. No. STDS-ST-SPE-1-0001-01-00-00 Section 8.1 and was found to be adequate. A
fillet weld of 6mm thickness (as stipulated by the company specifications) connects the grating to
jacket member and the weld thickness was found to be adequate. The grating was also checked for
adequacy after allowing an average corrosion of 5mm all around and the design was found to be
adequate.
