It is Sales meeting held on the last day of the month to announce and

discuss sales targets of the coming month. The meeting will be held in

conference room of the company’s head office.


Who is the audience and what are their characteristics?

A2. The audience is the sales team of the company. This team includes

employees ranging from sales manager to junior sales officer.

Why has the audience come to hear the speech?

It is a customary meeting held on the last working day of every month. In

share ideas to enhance the business and discuss problems they are facing

meeting targets.
What are the interests of the audience?

A4. Sales team wants their inputs to be included in target setting process.

There are major bonuses for the sales team members that are conditioned

What does the audience know about your topic?

A5. The members of the team are aware of the target setting process. They

are aware that due to lower sales in the previous month, sales targets are

going to be high for the coming month

Some team members acknowledge the fact that sales has been low and

positive about the news that sales targets are going to be high for the next

month. Some members believe that higher sales targets are not

reasonable given market condition.

How will the audience likely react to your speech?

Some team members will be very receptive and welcoming. Some

members will be apprehensive about the increased targets.

The increase in the sales targets is not unreasonable and high targets

bring high bonuses. Market is showing the sign of improvement. The

new targets are not difficult to achieve with hard work and dedication.

Team members should think that new targets are achievable. They should

think about the rewards these new target will bring to them.

The sales team should feel positive about the targets. They should feel

motivated and enthusiastic about meeting the targets and obtaining the

bonuses that they deserve.

T1. What is the most important message of your speech?


The market conditions are improving. New sales targets are reasonable,

well planned, and achievable. Higher sales targets bring higher bonuses.

Why should/will your audience care about your message?

T2. These challenges are learning opportunities for the sales team. They grow

as professionals by facing these challenges and working hard. They also

provide them opportunity of growth in career and chance of consideration

for future promotions.

Reflection

R1. Are your audience, purpose and thesis aligned? Why or why not?
They are aligned because my thesis clearly conveys the key message to

the audience that are aware and interested in the topic. The thesis

particularly states benefits of the audience while effectively serving my

purpose of speech.

What did you learn from this experience?

I learnt that thinking about the audience, their characteristics and their

interest beforehand, makes it very easy to choose the content of the

speech. It is very important to think about the purpose your key message

(thesis) is supposed to serve.
