According to the Science Park of the Philippines Inc., The Philippine government has declared
many economic zones in the country throughout the years. Economic zones are not only to
appeal foreign investors but to also stimulate and manage the growth of its local economy.
Provinces in the country are given the chance to improve their employment opportunities without
difficulty of long travel times, travel expenses and heavy commutes. Local skilled employees are
paid better by various agencies and companies located within the economic zones.

They mentioned that history of Bataan is closely tied from World War 2, that the shadow from
its past still looms the province. The local government acknowledges that such event is important
to its history and a reflection and a learning experience that not only to become better people but
making sure that such tragic event will not occur once again. In the present day, Bataan remains
as a home to its rich culture and history, abundant tourism, and has risen above the ashes of the
past.

In 1972, Bataan was converted into an economic zone to allow access to foreign enterprises to
settle down in the Bataan Export Processing Zone or BEPZ. The advantage of the BEPZ allows
enterprises to receive benefits such as tax exemptions, depreciation of fixed assets, and more.
The creation of BEPZ was focused on generating jobs, skilled workers, and increased foreign
exchange, which are all used to accelerate the country’s development.
