SPECIALIZED CONSTRUCTION TECHNIQUES 1

Construction techniques and technologies are getting very advanced today. The
specialized construction techniques such as like box pushing, box type retaining walls, slip form
for chimney, silo construction and several modern creative products are driving the building of
some form of job.

 BOX PUSHING TECHNIQUE

The boxing technique generally consists of the development of the thrust bed, the
manufacturing of the precast RCC box sections over the thrust bed, the intermediate
jacking station, the pressing of the precast box units and the front cutting shield. The
boxes are planned and installed on the location itself. To cast a box, it tends to take about
21 days to finish. In building a thrust bed, open excavation is performed with this
technique. Thrust bed is built in RCC to withstand the necessary thrust extorted by
jacking force and move it to the ground at the sides and bottom. The aim of pushing the
box is to create a horizontal opening underneath the ground or by means of an
embankment, i.e. a tunnel, by having precast box structures under the ground or
embankment, without disrupting the overhead facilities, such as traffic and infrastructure.

 BOX TYPE RETAINING WALLS

The retaining wall is a framework built and installed to endure the lateral pressure
of the soil or to keep back soil materials. Lateral pressure may often be attributed to soil
loading, liquid pressure, sand and other small particles behind the retaining wall
construction. The box type is used for the design of the erosion control system. The box
type is used for the design of the erosion control system and it is being used to strengthen
steep slopes. Examples of box type retaining walls are the ff:
a. Gabions – it is a typical stone stacked up and tied along with the wire. It's
extraordinary, packing both an industrial and a unique texture. Contractors
also fill the middle with something affordable, robust, and strong, taking up a
lot of room at a lower expense. Therefore higher-quality material will be
poured onto the pieces where we can personally see.
b. Crib – it is also an example of gravity wall, formed of interconnecting
independent boxes made of precast concrete or timber.

 SLIP FORM FOR CHIMNEY

Slip form is one of the most common adopted techniques for the making of an
RCC outer shell. In this process, the concrete formwork simply slips up cm by cm to
create an articulated concrete structure. The slip form technique is an alternate to a
traditional formwork process that helps with continuous vertical and horizontal design.
This method helps the repeated spilling of concrete into moving formwork. The cycle
ends only when the necessary duration of casting has been accomplished.

 SILO CONSTRUCTION

The potential benefits of this concrete structural material are effectiveness, good
availability, versatile functionality and unchallenging manufacturing. Basic requirements
for the finest cost-effectiveness are thus provided. The silo ensures production flow and is
also excellently suitable for products that do not flow effectively. Due to the excellent
insulation values of the dual-walled silo component, humidity issues are not given the
opportunity. As a norm, a powder covering is given for the preservation.
 TRENCHLESS TECHNOLOGY
Trenchless construction covers all forms of development or reconstruction of
underground service structures with minimal surface or material damage. This includes a
range of techniques, products and supplies for testing, use and recovery. Substantial
progress has been achieved in the production of the latest trenchless construction
equipment system
