13 days respectively. Calculate the variance and expected time of the activity.
2
b) A project has an expected completion time of 33 weeks and a variance of 15 weeks . It is
assumed that the project completion time is normally distributed. What is the probability that
the project will be completed in 40 weeks or less?

Question 3
The following table shows some of the information on the activities of a project that is about to start.

I B, D 10 11 12

a) Construct a network for this project.

b) Determine the expected time and variance for each activity.
c) Determine Earliest Start Time (EST) and Latest Start time (LST) for each activity.
d) Find the critical path, project completion time and project variance.
e) What is the probability that the project will be finished in 30 months?

Question 4
A student's project consists of eight activities with the following relevant information:

Activity Immediate Normal Time Crash Time Normal Crash

Predecessor (days) (days) Cost (RM) Cost (RM)
A - 3 2 800 1400
B - 2 1 1200 1900
C - 5 3 2000 2800
D A 5 3 1500 2300
E D 6 4 1800 2800
F B,E 2 1 600 1000

a) Draw the network diagram for the project.

b) Determine the critical path(s), the project completion time and the total cost of the project
under normal time.
c) If the student wants to complete the project in 13 days, crash the project to meet the desired
completion time at the least possible cost.
d) Calculate the total project cost to meet the 13 days completion time.

Question 5
In a PERT analysis, a project is expected to be completed in 30 days with the variance of 8 days.
What is the probability that the project will be completed in 5 days earlier?

Question 6
Fadzil & Co. is planning to produce and market a new product. Activities, activity precedence
relationships and activity times involve in the project are as follows:

Activity Immediate Time Estimate (days)

Predecessors Optimistic (a) Most Likely (m) Pessimistic (b)
A - 1 4 7
B A 3 6 15
C - 6 6 6
D - 4 10 16
E B, C, D 6 12 30
F D 2 3 4
G D 8 8 14
H E, F 2 5 8
I E, F 3 9 27
J G, I 2 4 6
K H 2 2 2

a) Construct a project network and then determine the critical path and the expected project
completion time.
b) What is the maximum delay time without delaying the entire project for activity F and activity
K?
c) Determine the probability that the project will be completed in 48 days.

Question 7
The marketing department of Akimida Company is in the final stage of inspecting a new product before
launching. In order to coordinate the project, it was decided to use a PERT network. The activities and
their time estimates are given as follows:

Activity Time (weeks) Immediate Predecessors

A 5 -
B 1 -
C 2 A
D 4 B
E 6 B,C
F 1 E,D
G 2 C
H 3 G
I 2 F,H
J 3 I

a) Develop a project network for this problem. Find the critical path and the expected time the
tasks above will be completed.
2
For question b) and c), assume project variance is 3.11 weeks .
b) What is the probability if the head of marketing department wants to complete all the tasks
within 16 weeks?
c) When is the due date (in weeks) if the head of marketing department wants to have a 90%
chance of completing all the tasks?

Question 8
The CINIMOV Studios is about to begin the production of its most important movie of the year. The
producer has decided to use Critical Path Method (CPM) to help in planning and controlling this key
