METHOD STATEMENT FOR HIGH DENSITY

POLYETHYLENE (HDPE) PIPE LAYING WORKS

1.0 Scope Of Works

This method statement covers the laying of 160mm, 225mm and 315mm O.D HDPE
pipe (PN12.5).

2.0 Survey Setting Out

The pipe route shall be pegged out by licensed surveyor according to the construction
drawing.

3.0 Delivery and Unloading HDPE Pipes

The site supervisors shall ensure that the HDPE pipes (12m length per nos) were
unloaded on the road shoulders or verge area not affected the traffic flow.

4.0 Manpower, Machinery, Equipment

4.1 Manpower per Work Gang
 1 machine operator
 4 general worker
 1 supervisor

4.2 Machinery
 1 nos. Electrofusion machine
 1 nos. of portable generator set
 1 nos. Backhoe JOHN DEERE (JCB) for pipes trenches excavation works.
 1 nos. 1.5 tonne lorry which carrying electrofusion machine and generator set.

4.3 Equipments (Electrofusion Machine)

 An electrofusion machine will include following:

Measuring: A tape measure or ruler is helpful for measurement of insertion (stab) depth
of pipe ends inside a coupling and checking pipe for roundness.

Marking: A permanent marker should be visible on the pipe color being used. Marks are
needed to locate insertion depths and to use as a guide for pipe scraping effectiveness.

Cutting: Devices that deliver a relatively clean and square cut (±5 degrees) on the pipe
ends are recommended.

Cleaning: Clean water can be used to remove mud and dirt from the pipe before
scraping. Do not use detergents or soaps to clean the pipe.

Scraping/Peeling: Scraping and peeling tools remove the oxidation and contamination
layer from the pipe.

Clamping: Clamps are needed to align pipe ends and restrain stresses inside the
coupling and pipe assembly.

4.4 Procedure of Electrofusion Welding

An example of electrofusion welding will be explained as per attached following
pages with the sample and photos.

For the fusion steps, basically fusion will be stopped when the indicators of fusion
popping up.
