1 Scope of Work

To perform Trenchless Renewal Technique by means of Pipe Bursting

method consist of the works is represented existing lateral
connections and or partially by the replacement of existing sewer
connection pipes.

The commissioning, the decommissioning of pipes and the

decommissioning of old system have to satisfy the SO/Engineer, and
it shall be made sure that no defects and safety regulations are kept
and the nuisance to the public and surrounding areas is kept to a
minimum.

2.Planning and Details on work to be done

The following points will be the normal preparation and procedure for
the decommissioning (disconnection) of the replaced pipe:
 Preparation of skilled labor, tools, fittings, dewatering
pump, hoses, electric source, grinder, welding machine
(where required)
 Vacuum Excavation / Excavation around the pipe location
and at the pre-determined location of disconnection. It has
to be ensured that there is enough working space according
to the pipe diameter and the method of disconnection.
 Marking on the pipe, showing the length of the existing pipe
to be cut out.
 Extreme care is to be taken to avoid any dirt or foreign
material entering the existing (and remaining) pipe.
 Installation of the required fittings to plug the existing (and
remaining) pipe.
 Repair of any possibly damaged protection layer.

3. Stage 1

a.Site Inspection

Visual site inspection are must for pipe bursting to ascertain the
actual site condition and constrains.

b.Review and Inspection of CCTV Reports

To review existing CCTV reports and record will determine the internal
severity condition of the propose bursting section of manhole to
Manhole and also to determine lateral positioning. Therefore Pre and
Post CCTV is must for any pipe bursting projects.
Prior to pipe bursting , All Debris such as dirt, sand, rocks, grease,
and other solid or semisolid material resulting from the cleaning
operation shall be removed at the downstream structure of the section
being cleaned.

c.Manhole Inspection

Manhole inspection are performed from initial stage by those approved

to enter / authorized person only.

Activities:

I. To determine the Manhole condition and structure defects

II. To determine the position of bursting gantry installation
III. To determine the invert levels
IV. To determine any lateral or drop manhole connections
V. To design and hacking of upsizing of new pipe positioning

d.Subsurface Utility Engineering

A part of the rehabilitation plan SUE will include the anticipated

“Potential impact zone” of the pipe burst and all utility inside of that
zone be located and exposed or relocated if they may become
damaged.
In any pipe bursting cases, utilities may conflict with the potential
impact zone are “potholed” by use of vacuum excavation, which
exposes them and either confirms that they are outside of the potential
impact zone or allows for the pipe bursting head to pass by safely, at
which time the hole is then simply refilled. (As shown in Figure 7)

4.Stage 2
a.Material Selections

Designed for use with the Hammerhead and PB static and pneumatic
pipe bursting system, “Snaptight” is a proprietary jointed pipe using
push and pull method. A range of outside diameters from 150mm to
500mm is available. A full list of sizes is shown in the table below.

Pipe are manufactured by RESIN TECH Plastic and the Sn aptight

pipes are crafted using standard polyethylene pipes to MS 1058: Part
2: 2005. This ensures compliance with all the relevant SPAN

Trenchless Renewal Method - Pipe Bursting Type 1

Manhole to Manhole Inline Replacement

PB tools help limit disruption to traffic and city streets by offering

trenchless means for pipeline rehabilitation and replacement. PB tools
allow to utilise Manholes as the launch and exit pits for bursting
operations. PB tool is easily positioned inside of a manhole to begin
the bursting run. W hen the tool completes the burst it is quickly
removed through the next manhole eliminating the need for additional
pits.
PB System are custom design to fix at various site conditions,
operates with PB 20T and PB 4 0T powered by PB Power pack.
The PB system design for “PUSH - PULL with Pneumatic Hammering”
Solves the most taught pipe renewal. Suitable for used for VCP and
RCP with diameter < 450mm. as shown in Fig 2 .

If the old pipe has collapsed PB Burst can be used to bore through
the collapse.

PB Technology replace and solve traditional excavation in urban city

and constrain locations, if possible, could involve considerable
expense and convenience.

The old sewer pipe is totally replaced with a new PE 100 PN 12.5 SDR
13.5 HDPE segmental pipe known as “Snap Tight “(Patent Pending in
Malaysia), which is also designed for installation for Manhole size of
845mm up to 1600mm and from within small chambers.

The new pipe push through using PB Steel Rod Pulling 75mm of 1m
length each ideally suitable where pipe upsizing isn't required, or
where the upsize is a small increase.

Fig 4. PB Steel Rod 75mm

This type of similar systems has already successfully be en used to

replace many kilometers of sewer and water pipe for water companies
and councils across global.

How PB Burst Works

Method of Installation
• W inch placed into manhole 1
• W inch rods inserted into old pipe from manhole 1 and connected
to head in manhole 2.
• Head winched into old pipe, which is broken and displaced.
• New pipe is located in shield on rear of head and held in place
by simple tensioning device.
• Head is again winched forward. New pipes are snapped together
behind the head as it is winched forward.
• Above step is repeated until full length is in place.

i.Manhole invert hacking for upsizing

Manhole to Manhole pipe bursting requires, the existing manhole need

to modify at bell of pipe invert. It requires a large opening to be
hacked prior to bursting.

During this modification works the existing manhole may need some
renewal of enlargement of manhole chambers to suit the new pipe
installations.
