I. OBJECTIVES

The learner demonstrates understanding of: South and West Asian literature as an expression of
CONTENT STANDARD philosophical and religious beliefs; information sources, active/passive constructions, direct/reported speech,
perfect tenses, and logical connectors in journalistic writing.

The learner transfers learning by composing a variety of journalistic texts, the contents of which may be
PERFORMANCE STANDARD
used in composing and delivering a memorized oral speech featuring use of properly acknowledged
information sources, grammatical signals for opinion-making, persuasion, and emphasis and appropriate
prosodic features, stance and behavior.

Learning Competencies At the end of the period, students should be able to:
A. Arrive at the meaning of the words through context clues;
B. Raise questions about a particular aspect of a material viewed ( EN8VC-Ive-12);
C. Engage effectively in a range of collaborative group activities with diverse ideas and;

B.Before the Lesson:


1. Pre-Vieiwing The teacher will flash pictures that came from the scene of the story that they will watch later and ask the
Motivation students to analyze each pictures and answer the following questions:

1. Tell something about the pictures. Give your observation or describe what's in the picture.
2. What do you think will the story be about?
3. Have you heard of the Ramayana before? Give brief details of what you have heard.
The teacher will ask the students to raise questions that they want to ask and will be answer later on after
viewing.

2. Vocabulary Expansion
Give the meaning of the underlined words through context clues.
1. The evil demon Ravana hears of Sita's beauty and abducted her. He has fallen in love with her that
became the reason of kidnapping her.
2. Kaikeyl decided to ask Dasharatha for the two boons, he had promised her. Her request is to exile Rama
in the forest for 14 years.
3. The whole kingdom was grief stricken of what happened to Rama and Dasharatha died soon after
because of also being deeply affected.
4. The three lived in the forest amidst the beauty and sourrounded by peace of nature's treasures.
5. Ravana came in the guise of a sage and wisely get Sita without anybody seeing him.
B. During the Lesson
Discussion
1. Viewing
The teacher will play a video clip of the story Ramayana. But before playing the video clip the teacher will ask
students to get a piece of paper and fold it in half-lengthwise. On one side, write "Characters" and on the other side
write "Actions". As the students watch the video, they should write down important characters on the left and then
write what that character does on the half right of the paper.

The teacher will play the video clip and pausing at the following points to have discussion.

2. How did Rama and Sita met?


3. What do you think is going to happen to Rama and Sita?

The teacher will play again the video clip.

After the students have watched the whole video clip, the teacher will go back to the questions that the
students raised and ask if they can now answer the questions. Afterwards the teacher will discuss the
following:
4. How would you describe the main characters? What problems do they face?
5. How is your attention drawn to particular images?
6. How are particular visual elements used as symbols?
7. How does the scene handle the underlying themes?
8. How did this scene highlight the author's purpose or message?
9. Which scene is a foreshadowing of what will happen in the end?
10. What good insights into life are there in the video? How does it affect you as a viewer?

The teacher will give a brief discussion about epic.


Epic- a long narrative poem in elevated style recounting the deeds of a legendary or historical hero.

C. After the Lesson


1. Post Viewing The class will be divided into four groups and do the task assigned to them.
Enrichment
(Pre-Assigned) Casting Group- This group was assigned in casting the Ramayana. Who would you cast for a cinematic
version of the story? Who would you cast from among TV personalities or personalities in your school?

Advertisement Group- This group was assigned to advertise the story. How would you advertise the story?
What publicity outlets or strategies would you use?

Editor Group- This group was assigned to edit scene from the story. If you were an editor with The
Ramayana on your desk, what changes would you ask for?

Soundtrack Group- This group was assigned to give a soundtrack for the story. If you were the sound
designer for the movie version of the story, what songs would you recommend?

( My Treasure) After watching the story of The Ramayana, Think of another heroic story that you already read or watch.
Give a short summary and comparison of this story to The Ramayana. Write your answer in your reflection
