1. Define band gap and draw the energy diagram of the three materials. (2point)

2. Why does a semiconductor have fewer free electrons than a conductor? Illustrate it by comparing
silicon atom with copper atom (2point)

3. List at least three types of diode and explain them? (2point)

4. A bridge power supply circuit is show below. Assuming the turn on voltage of all diodes is Vf=0.7.
The input is Vin=10Sin(2πft)V where f=1khz. In the circuit c=20uF and R1=0.2kohm.for the zener
diode (Z1), Vf=0.7 and Vzk=5V. (4point)

I. Determine the ripple factor on the capacitor for Vin at the peak

6. A bipolar junction transistor with ßdc =100 and Vf =0.7 for BE junction is connected to the circuit
as shown below. Find the operating point of the BJT, i.e IB,IC,IE and Vout (3 point)

7. Design a biased-transistor circuit using VBB=VCC=10V for a Q-point of IC =5mA and


VCE=4V. Assuming ßdc =100. The design involves finding RB, RC, and Sketch the circuit.

8. From the collector characteristic curves and the dc load line shown below determine the

9. Determine the Q-point for the circuit shown below and draw the dc load line. Find the
