A. Introduction
A.1 Review/Drill
Before we formally start our lesson this afternoon, let’s have first a review. To refresh your
knowledge about calculating the mean of ungrouped data, let us do this short activity. Now, I have here 15
cards. What you are going to do is to compute the mean of the data’s found in the cards. Now I need one
representative from the class.

A.2 Motivation
We’ve done already discussing about the calculation of the mean of ungrouped data. Since, there
is an ungrouped data, do you know that there is also a grouped data?
Do you know how to calculate the mean of grouped data?

A.3 Presentation of the Lesson:

So, be with me this afternoon class as we discuss on how to calculate the Mean of Grouped Data.

Statement of the Aim:

 Enumerate the steps in calculating the mean.
 Describe the importance of the mean in real life situation.
 Solve for the mean of grouped data.
B. Interaction
B.1 Varied Engaging Activities
Now class, I want you to open your book on page 328. This time, I need another one
representative from the class to pick at least 20 cards and write the numbers on the boards.
The following numbers are ungrouped data.
23 28 31 31 27 27 26 24 22 20 18 20 21

To group the following data we need to follow these steps:

1. Make a frequency distribution table(FTD).
2. In making the FTD, we need to compute first the; class interval, and class size
3. Compute for the class mark.
4. Compute the class boundaries.
5. Look for the frequency.
6. Compute the f(x).
B.1 Process question Group Dynamics
Now for us, to construct our own Frequency Distribution Table out of the given data, I will
group you first into six groups. I will give each group an example of a frequency distribution
table and each group will find out how to make a Frequency Distribution Table using the given
process. Each group is assign to each process.
Group 1- Class Interval
Group 2- Class Size
Group 3- Class Mark
Group 4- Class Boundaries
Group 5- Frequency
Group 6- F(x)

B.2 Processing of the Group Dynamics

Base on the given example, how are going to solve the;
 Class interval
 Class size
 Class mark
 Class boundaries
 Frequency
 F(x)

We have already our frequency distribution table. Now, it’s time for us to solve for the mean of our grouped
data.

Class Interval = √n Class Size = HV-LV

=√ 13 CI
= 3.6 or 4 = 31-18
4
= 3.2 or 3

Class Interval Class Mark Class Boundaries Frequency F(X)

18-21 19.5 17.5-21.5 4 78
22-25 23.5 21.5-25.5 3 70.5
26-29 27.5 25.5-29.5 4 110
30-33 31.5 29.5-33.5 2 63

Formula of Mean: x=
∑ fx
n

Base on the given formula, who can solve for the mean?

B.2 Other classroom activities or creativity to depend the lesson

Let’s have an activity. This activity is called “What’s in your Shoes”. What you are going to do is that each
group will collect the shoe sizes of the each member. Afterwards you make a Frequency Distribution Table
out of those shoe sizes and solve for the mean. I will give you the materials you needed for this activity.

B.3 Assessment:
Directions: Solve for the mean of the following grouped data. Write your answer on a ¼ sheet of paper.
Show your solutions.

Class Interval Class Mark Class Boundaries Frequency F(X)

18-21 19.5 17.5-21.5 4 78
22-25 23.5 21.5-25.5 3 70.5
26-29 27.5 25.5-29.5 4 110
30-33 31.5 29.5-33.5 2 63
C. Integration
C.1 Gospel Reading related to the lesson
According to 1 Corinthians 10:31 – “Whether therefore you eat, drink or whatsoever you
do, do all the Glory of God”. Meaning make God as the center of everything.

C.2 Real Life Situation Related to the lesson

A while ago, we have discussed about the Mean of Grouped data, as one of the measures
of central tendencies.
We can associate the word central to center. A center value of the data.

In connection to our lives, who is the center of your lives?

C.3 Closure of the Lesson

Do you have any questions?

IV. Assignment
Direction: in your home, ask each of the family members about their shoe size, make a
Frequency Distribution Table out of it, and compute for the Mean. Write it on a one whole sheet
of paper.
