1.0 PURPOSE
The purpose of this method statement is to ensure that the wrapping of adhesive tapes on DI Pipes /
Fittings in accordance with correct methods and procedures.
2.0 DEFINITIONS
3.0 RESPONSIBILITIES
PM/DPM shall ensure that all necessary tools & Instruments, safety protective equipments
are provided along with properly trained and qualified surveyors and made
available sufficiently in advance to the commencement of the work.
Safety Officer has to implement and enforce all safety precautions. He will also inspect the work
site regularly, and report deficiencies to the DPM / PM.
Site Engineer is responsible for the construction work and shall delegate a named Site
Supervisor who shall ensure that this procedure is fully implemented including
documentation till completion.
Surveyor is responsible to ensure that all surveying instrument being used are calibrated
and having valid calibration certificate and he shall ensure that all information,
data etc. required is to be taken and recorded on his Field Book.

4.0 MATERIALS
5.0 ACTIONS
5.1 Clean and dry the approved DI pipe (or fitting) out side surface.
5.2 Make touch –up/repair of factory applied coating, damaged during the transportation.
5.3 Apply a coat of approved primer, which shall be allowed to dry, as per recommendation of
Wrapping tape manufacturer.
5.4 Wrap the so prepared pipe ( or fitting) with approved self- adhesive tape with 55% overlap as
shown in this attached drawing and with sufficient tension to ensure complete conformability
to the pipe / fitting surface, without air pockets.
5.5 Leave both ends of the pipe /fitting free of Wrapping in lengths as required for pipes
(or pipes with fittings) connection purposes.
5.6 Apply the protecting layer of approved polyethylene sheet with provision for sufficient
overlaps to the next pipe.
5.7 After completion of pipe laying repair the protection as above at all places damaged during
Pipe laying.
5.8 Complete wrapping at joints using approved moulding compound to create smooth profile
Maximum angle 45o.
