I. Deduce the meaning of the following derivatives from the meanings of their
constituents. Explain your deduction. What are the meanings of the affixes in
the words under examination?

II. Explain the difference between the meanings of the following words
produced from the same root by means of different affixes. Translate the words
into Vietnamese.
watery – waterish,
- Watery: chứa đựng nhiều nước, nhiều ẩm, loãng, nhạt.
- Waterish: làm nước quá, ẩm thấp (không khí), lù mù, chập choạng (ánh
sáng).
embarrassed - embarrassing.
- Embarrassed: tập trung miêu tả cảm xúc, trạng thái xấu hổ.

Put each of the above suffixes in its correct place in the sentences below.

(b) He gets very tense and nervous in enclosed spaces like lifts and the

(c) The custom of having more than one wife or husband is known as ‘polygamy’

IV Explain the meanings of the following words and phrases.
