A. Readings :
In Comparing tow sets using the expressions “as many as”
1. Present some sets of objects.
Examples: 7 pencils 4 books 3 crayons
3 bags 7 notebooks 4 chalkboards

Which set has as many obects as the crayons?


Guide the pupils in saying – The set of crayons is as many as the set of bags.
Compare the other sets using the expressions “ as many as”
2. Present two sets with the same number of objects .
Let the pupils compare using “ as many as”

How many objects are there in set A? in set B?

3. What words do we use to describe sets with the same number of objects?
We use the expressions “ as many as” ” to compare sets with the same number of objects.
We compare the sets one to one so that we will know if one set has as many objects
as the other.
Reminders :
 We use the word “less than” if (<) when one value is smaller than another
Example : 3<5
 We use the word “greater than” (>) when one value is bigger than another
Example: 9>6

In Identifying sets of objects from least to greatest


1.Teacher present a story.
Mila went to the garden to pick some flowers. She picked 4 yellow gumamela, 2 white orchid and 3 red roses.

( Teacher post the sets of flowers on the board)

Ask: Who went to the garden?


What did she pick?
What were the colors of the flowers?
How many flowers of each color did she pick?
4. Let the pupils observe the sets of flowers posted on the board.
What are your observations about the sets of flowers?
Possible answers:
The gumamelas are more than the orchids.
The orchids are less than the gumamelas.
Can you compare the number of flowers in the 3 sets? How?
Which set is least ?
Which is the greatest?
Let the pupils use their show me board to show the sets from least to the greatest
number of flowers.

5. How did you arrange the sets from least to greatest? What set should be the first?
What set should be the last?
