MODEL (REGION), BLOCKS, MONEY,
NUMBER LINE AND GRID

A DepEd-BEAM Distance Learning Program supported by the Australian Agency for International Development
To the Learner

Hi! It’s nice to be with you once again. This time you will be
learning another module about decimals. Read and understand the
instructions well so that you will be able to answer the entire question
given.

Let’s Learn This

Naming a decimal for a given model.

Let’s Try This

Identify and write the amount of the following set of coins and paper
bills.

10 ¢ 10 ¢ 10 ¢ 10 ¢
1.) = ___________

2.) P1.00 25 ¢ = __________

3.) P5.00 P1.00 25 ¢ = __________

4.) P1000.00 P500.00 = ____________

- 26 -
5.) 25 ¢ .05¢ = ________________

Let’s Study This

Read and understand the problem below.

The driver made a stop at nearly gas station to buy premium gas
for the car. He observed from the gas machine that a full tank gas
worth P250.00 ordered by the owner registered a corresponding
22.727272 liters of gas at P11.00 per liter.

Numbers which we normally use daily like 22.727272 liters of gas

and P11.00 are called decimal numbers or simply decimals. The
word decimal refers to a particular form to write a fraction called
decimal fraction whose denominator is a power of 10 such as 10,
100, 1000 etc.
A decimal can be used to name shaded part of a region

Decimal: 0.7 Decimal: 0.07 Decimal: 0.007

Fraction: 7 Fraction: 7 Fraction: 7
10 100 1000
Read: 7 tenths Read: 7 hundredths Read: 7 thousandths

Let’s Do This

Write in decimal form for the shaded part of a given model below.

1.)
= _______________

2.) = _______________

3.) = _____________

4.) = _______________

5.) = ________________

Let’s Do More

Read and analyze the problem.

Henry and Jake assisted their mother in washing clothes by filling

water for her Henry filled 3/8 of the drum, while Jake was able to fill
4/8 of the drum.

Questions:

1.) What fraction represented the part of the drum they filled with
water?
2.) What fraction of the drum filled by Henry? _________
3.) How do you write 3/8 in decimal form? Write in words.
4.) How about 4/8? ____________
5.) 7/8 = ___________

Let’s Remember This

1.) The basis in naming the model is the shaded part.

2.) Find the number of parts the whole unit has.
3.) Write the fractional part of a model in words.
4.) Write the factional part of the model in symbols.
5.) Write the fractional part in the decimal form.
