In the modern world of computers and information technology, the importance of statistics is very well

recognized by all disciplines. Statistics has originated as a science of statehood and found applications
sociology, economics, biology, medicine, industry, planning, education and so on. And as of this time
there is no other human walk of life where statistics cannot be applied. It is a fact that statistics plays a
vital role in every field of human activity. It helps in assessing the situation of our country in terms of
population growth, employment and unemployment rate, the need of the population for health and
social services and all other aspects of our society that need to be addressed properly. Statistical
knowledge helps us use the proper methods to collect data and determine the correct analyses that will
lead to effective results. As we can see, statistics has a vital role in scientific studies to seek knowledge
and improve our lives.

In industry, statistics could help to improve the safety and reliability and performance of products of all
types. The food industry as well, use statistics to design safe, tastier, more attractive and more nutritious
products. In education, statistics is very important as well, as it helps the teacher to predict the future
performance of the students.

Another instances that statistics plays a vital role, is that what we have been experiencing for the past
three months. Yes, it is the global pandemic that greatly affect our health, economics, and our lives as
well. By just merely looking the statistical data presented to the public, we did realized that there was a
negative impact to the humanity the abrupt surging and increasing of positive cases of the corona virus
disease. Through the statistical data, we can simply analyze and interpret what will happen if the
contagion keep increasing and to flatten the curve is hopeless. Most of us (if not all) positively
responded the government call to help in flattening the curve of the infectious/deadly virus. By just
understanding the statistical data Filipino citizens then gradually did their fair share to stop the spread
of the disease so that it wont largely infect the people in the community just like other country (USA for
instance). The new normal was already practiced and holistically accepted by most of the responsible
Filipino citizens. By monitoring daily of the statistical data of the pandemic, we religiously believe that
having enough knowledge about the virus we can stop the spread of the disease.

To conclude, statistics is an important part of our lives. Because statistics represent a common method
of presenting information that will help us to understand what the data are telling us. It definitely help
us to analyze what is happening in the world around us. It is being used: behind all the medical study,
forecasting future weather conditions, quality testing for thousands of products, stock market analysis,
and use for consumer goods. With the help of statistics we can foresee what happened in the past and
what may occur in the future just as what we are experiencing today.
