Notus, the South Wind

Denizen of the Breath Aspect

Notus is the Greek God of the Southern Wind and the Bane of Agriculture. He is said to take the
form of a stallion made of wind and impregnate mares with colts capable of minors feats of
flight. He lives in a palace within the southernmost edge of the world, in the mythical land of
aethiopia (not to be confused with the real country of Ethiopia). His winds brings with them
either sweltering heat or stormy rains. And while crops would benefit from his occasional
showers, should he be angered he could create rains so hard, they could drown the world in his
rainfall. This is especially true, should his power not be opposed by his chily brother, Boreas,
who he would bicker with, which would often cause terrifying and deadly flows of wind.

The Quest
Land of Rain: A Land where it is always raining. Always. It’s not all bad though, most of the
time it's light enough to ignore, though not anymore. The Denizen has been steadily worsening
the perpetual monsoon the planet suffers, and he doesn’t seem intent on stopping. Without
intervention, the rains shall start to adversely affect the Land, causing mudslides, widespread
flooding, washing away the roots of several types of plant so as to prevent any farming from
happening, and many more. It is up to the Player to banish this terrible storm and save the
Land.

The Battle
Notus is a powerful Denizen, and one as quick to anger as his brother Boreas. His primary
abilities lie in his affinity to the diametrically opposed elements of fire and rain. His version of the
innate wind manipulation the Anemoi share is capable of dealing either Water or Fire Damage,
and he is quite a master at using the wind as a destructive instrument. As with Boreas, Notus
can create a large area version of his wind attack, creating a flash heat wave or a sudden storm.
The latter is particularly nasty on the sea, due to its ability to cause violent waves. His last ability
is of floral destruction, one of such scale that it is possible for him o scour a Land of all plant life
within a day.

The Prize
Rainstaff - A wooden staff made out of the fallen branch of a mangrove tree. It has several
runes and sigils engraved upon its surface, and is topped with an azure gem of immense size
and in the shape of a teardrop. It has incredible powers over water and rain, and can easily
create fast torrents of water that may even be controlled as if it was a whip or chain.

Torrential Winds
As the ruler of the Raining and Thermal Winds, Notus has an impressive ability to command
them. He is especially proficient at their destructive uses, for Notus is easily angered and is
quite combatitive. This ability allows Notus to create and manipulate bursts of both hot and
humid winds. The winds themselves could deal a decent amount of Physical, Wind and either
Fire or Water Damage, sometimes all four if Notus is feeling particularly spiteful. Though of
course, using both Fire and Water is counter intuitive. This ability could be effectively resisted
using icy winds, particularly those of Boreas, his brother and eternal enemy. This ability could
be used as Notus sees fit, and while it has many utility uses, being capable of manipulating
more elements than any of his brothers, he prefers to use it as a weapon. One that ne could use
with the proficiency of someone dedicated to mastering it.

Storms and Sparks

A distinct manifestation of Notus’ Torrential Winds, one that is quite similar, yet different all the
same. This focuses on a single aspect of Torrential Winds and magnifies it, particularly, the
parts about the dual nature of rain and flames. This ability has two modes, both of which are an
large Area of Effect ability;
● Heat Wave - Causes all the air in a Long Radius to heat up exponentially. Even
breathing is painful in this enviromen, as everything caugh within the ability’s effect is
dealt a Medium amount of Fire Damage every round it is active
● Great Deluge - Causes an unreal intensity of rainfall. This causes all the ground in the
Radius to become slippery, rapidly causes flooding and rogue waves if at sea, and deals
a Low amount of Water Damage to everything in the radius each turn.
This ability is quite a bit less flexible than Torrential Winds, but makes up for it is sheer potency,
an exchange Notus is happy to make. Another downside is that is ability is quite Shenergy
intensive, and thus Notus cannot keep it active for a prolongued period of time.

Bane of Growth
Notus is feared by farmers as the bane of their harvests, for his breath could both burn and
wash away their crops. Once, he burned down the crops of a harebrained king, who sent his
fleets out to Notus’ Palace to kill him. Notus responded as any god would, and sunk the fleet
until no evidence of it’s existance remained. This ability specifically argets the florar results of
agricultural cultivation all across the Land, and reduces them to nothing, either by burning them
all to ash, or by causing them to wash away. This has adverse effects upon the Land, namely,
that the Consorts have no food and everything is either soaked or wet or an unholy combination
of both.
Treasure Hoard

Rainstaff
“A wooden staff made out of hundreds of a fallen branch of a mighty mangrove tree, decorated
with several sigils signifying rain, water, storms, floods, and many more. At the top of the staff, a
magnificently azure gem is perched, shaped as a teardrop or raindrop would, and engraved
with the sigil which signifies Notus’ power.”
Might - Type: Light Bludgeoning Weapon - Damage: Low - Attribute: Mangrit - Range: Melee
Magic - Type: Focusing Magic Weapon - Damage: Medium - Attribute: Pulchritude - Range:
Medium
Features
Arcane Predilection (Rain): The staff grants the wielder a grand affinity for all types of water and
rain magic, allowing them to learn and cast such workings with ease so long as they hold the
staff. This reduces the time required to learn them by half, and reduces their casting difficulty by
two.
Torrential Spray: The staff could create a mighty torrent of water to destroy its wielder's
enemies. This usually takes the form of a literal spray of water, one that is unusually fat to boot.
Should the user wish it, this could also take the form of a tendril, which could either be used as
one would a Whipkind or Chainkind weapon, or could be used to manipulate or reach object
from afar through concentration. Either of these modes use the staff’s Magic stats and would
deal primarily Water Damage.

Notus’ Chime
“A small rusted iron bell engraved with designs of stormy clouds, rain, and floods. Within it is
written the true name of Monsoon and that of Notus, hidden from the eyes of those unworthy.”
Type: Trinket - Damage: - Medium - Attribute: Pulchritude - Range: Long
Features
Deluge Caller: When rung the chime makes a soft sound, one that would rouse the spirits of
late-Autumn, Heat, Water, and Rain from their slumber, and then enrage them. The spirits
would cause a great storm to descend upon the nearby area, causing it to rain so hard, it would
actually start to hurt. Should this happen at sea, the waves would become unnaturally violent,
crashing upon each other at a ferocious pace, no sailing vehicle that enters the area could
remain in one piece, and most would be destroyed with all evidence of their existence being
sunk into the depths. The change would take hold within seconds, and would not only lower
Visibility, but would deal a minor (as in nigh undetectable, amount of Water Damage to
everything in range at the beginning of each turn (or every six seconds). Those flying or
swimming would experience Extreme Turbulence, are dealt more Water Damage each turn, and
would either fall out of the sky or drown in the depths. The surface land would quickly
experience floods, and would become quite slippery and unstable. The rain is only temporary,
for the spirits would soon eventually be calmed and return to their slumber, what it has caused
are more than likely to remain.
