The DAS SY5 system m for perfoorming com mpliance teests consists of the foollowing ite ems:
 A sttandard hig gh precisioon 6-axis roobot with controller,
c teach penddant and so oftware.
An a arm extenssion for acc commodatting the da ata acquisittion electroonics (DAE E).
 A da ata acquisition electrronics (DAE E) which performs
p the signal am mplificationn, signal
multtiplexing, AD-convers
A sion, offse

colliision detecction, etc. The
T unit is battery po owered with h standardd or recharg geable
battteries. The signal is optically
o tra
ansmitted to
t the EOC C.
 The e Electro-op ptical convverter (EOC C) performs the conv version fromm optical to o electricall
signnals for the
e digital commmunicatio on to the DAE.
D To us se optical ssurface detection, a
speccial version of the EO OC is requ ired. The EOC
E signa al is transm

mea asurement server.
 The e Light Bea am used is for probe alignment.. This imprroves the (aabsolute) accuracy

2.1.1. A
Applicationns
Predefin
ned proced dures and d evaluatio
ons for automated compliancce testingg with all
worldwidde standarrds, e.g., IE
EEE 1528,, OET 65, IEC 62209
9-1, IEC 662209-2, EN 50360,
EN 5038 83 and otheers.

2.1.2. A
Area Scanss
Area scaans are de
efined prio or to the m

w a userr
defined variable spacing between
b e
each meas surement point (inttegral) allo

d for FCC applicationns utilize a
10mm² sstep integrral, with 1m
mm interpoolation use
ed to locate the peakk SAR area used forr
zoom sccan assesssments.

When an Area Sccan has measured a all reachabble points, it computtes the fielld maximaa
found in the scann ned area, within a raange of the e global maximum.
m TThe rangee (in dB) iss
specified
d in the sta
andards forr compliancce testing. For example, a 2 dB
B range is required
r in
n
IEEE 15 528-2003, EN 50361 and IEC 62209 sta andards, whereby
w 3 dB is a reequirementt
when co ompliance isi assesse
ed in accord dance withh the ARIB standard (Japan).

2.1.3. Zo
oom Scan n (Cube Sccan Averaaging)
Zoom Sccans are used
u to as
ssess the p
peak spatiial SAR va
alues withi n a cubic averaging
g
volume ccontaining 1 g and 10
1 g of sim ssue. A density of 10000 kg/m³ is used to
mulated tis o
represen
nt the head d and body y tissue den nsity and not
n the pha antom liqui d density, in order to o
be consiistent with the definitiion of the l iquid diele
ectric prope
erties, i.e. tthe side len
ngth of the
e
1 g cube
e is 10mm, with the side
s length of the 10 g cube 21,5mm.

The zoom scan intteger steps s can be usser defined d so as to reduce unccertainty, but
b normall
practice for typical test appllications u tilize a physical step
p of 7x7x77 (5mmx5m mmx5mm))
providing
g a volumee of 30mm in the X & Y axis, an nd 30mm in n the Z axiis.

2.1.4. Uncertainty y of Inter-//Extrapolaation and Averaging

A g
In order to evaluatte the unce ertainty of the interpo
olation, exttrapolationn and averaged SAR R
calculatio on algoritthms of the Posttprocessorr, DASY5 5 allows the gene eration off
measure ement grids which are artificiallly predefinned by analytically bbased test functions..
Thereforre, the gridds of area scans
s and zoom scan ns can be filled
f with uuncertainty
y test data,
accordin ng to the SAR
S benchhmark funcctions of IEEEE 1528.The threee analytical functionss
shown in n equation ns as below are use ed to describe the po ossible rannge of thee expected d
SAR disttributions forf the testted handse ets. The fie
eld gradien
nts are covvered by thhe spatiallyy
flat distribution f1, the
t spatially steep disstribution f3

bot
2.5. Rob
The DAS SY5 system uses the high pre ecision robots TX90
XL type out of the newer serries from S Stäubli SA (France).
For the 6-axis con ntroller DAS SY5 syste em, the CS S8C robot
controlle
er version from
f Stäubbli is used.
The XL rrobot series have ma any featurees that are important
for our a
application::
 High h precision n (repeatabbility 0.02 m
mm)
 High h reliabilityy (industrial design)
 Jerkk-free straight movem ments
 Low w ELF interference (the closed metallic
consstruction shields
s agaainst motorr control fie
elds)
 6-axxis controller

2.6. Ligh
ht Beam Unit
U
The lighht beam sw witch allowws automa atic "tooling" of the
probe. DDuring the process,
p th
he actual pposition of the
t probe
tip with rrespect to the robot arm is me easured, asa well as
the prob be length and the horizontal probe offfset. The
softwaree then corre ects all moovements, such that the robot
coordinaates are va alid for the probe tip.
The repe eatability of
o this proce ess is bette
er than 0.11 mm. If a
position has been taught with an aligne ed probe, the
t same
position will be reaached with another a aligned pro obe within
0.1 mm, even if the other pro obe has diifferent dim mensions.
During pprobe rotattions, the probe tip will keep its actual
position.

2.7. Dev er
The DA ASY5 deviice holderr is desig gned to cope with
different positions given in th he standardd. It has tw
wo scales
for the d
device rotaation (with respect to the body axis) and
the devicce inclinatiion (with re
espect to th
he line bettween the
ear referrence poin nts). The rootation cennter for bo
oth scales
is the ea
ar reference e point (EP
PR).
Thus the e device needs
n no repositioniing when changing
the anglees.
The DAS SY5 device e holder haas been m made out off low-loss
POM ma aterial havving the following dieelectric parrameters:
relative p
permittivityy εr =3 andd loss tang
gent δ = 0.02.
0 The
amount of dielecttric materia al has be

closest vvicinity of the device

measuremeents have
suggeste ed that th
he influencce of the clamp on the test
results ccould thus be loweredd.

2.8. SAM Twin Ph

hantom
The SAMM twin pha antom is a fiberglass shell phan
ntom with
2mm sh hell thickne

dure
The DAS
SY 5 calculates SAR using the following equation,
e

σ: represents th
he simulateed tissue conductivit

ρ: rep

he tissue d
density

The EUT T is set to transmit

t att the requirred power in line with
h product sspecificatio
on, at each
frequenccy relating to the LOWW, MID, an nd HIGH ch hannel settings.

Pre-scanns are mad de on the device to establish the t location for the trransmitting
g antenna,
using a llarge area scan in eitther air or ttissue simulation fluid.

The EUT is place ed against the Univversal Pha antom where the m maximum areaa scann
dimensioons are larrger than the
t physiccal size of the resonaating antennna. When n the scan n
size is n
not large enough to o cover th e peak SA AR distribution, it iss modified by eitherr
extendin
ng the area
a scan sizee in both th
he X and Y directions
s, or the deevice is shifted within
n
the predefined area.

The area
a scan is then
t run to
o establish the peak SAR location (interpoolated resolution sett
at 1mm² ) which is then used to orient t he center of
o the zoom
m scan. Thhe zoom sccan is then
n
executed d and thee 1g and 10g averrages are derived from
f the zoom sca
an volume
e
(interpola
ated resolu
