Eni well site Supervisor (WSS) shall witness all items picked up and run through the rotary to ensure they are correct & operational
objective can be met. WSS and Directional Driller shall be on Drill Floor when drilling/tripping. WSS and Wellhead rep. shall be on
Drill Floor when running and landing casing. Pipe rotation shall be avoided during running to prevent premature release of running
tool.
Sequence of operations:
M/U 26” bit (paint white). Pick up and M/U the inner jetting string BHA (refer to Paragraph
“BHA”). Pull out and rack back BHA in the derrick.
o The inner jetting string is to be spaced out to position the bit approximately 6” (4” min. to 8” max) below the bottom of the
jet shoe when the 36" wellhead housing Drill Ahead Tool is made up in the 36" wellhead housing. Verify if 36” CP tally
match with 26” Jetting BHA length and cut Drive shoe (inside bevel) if necessary
Move the Mudmat on BOP trolley and position under the rotary table
Rig up for run 36” casing
Run 36” casing through the Mudmat as follows:
Cut the 36” drive joint as necessary to ensure bit space out, if needed. The bottom of the 36” shoe joint should have an
inside bevel to prevent stabilisers from hanging up later.
Paint white stripes on casing every 2 meters. Paint white stripes every 0.5 meters for first 6 meters below 36” wellhead
housing.
Apply light coat of oil to each connection. Do not use thread dope or other metallic base thread compound.
Stab each connector pin into the box and slack-off all weight on the hook before rotating the joint slowly with the casing
tongs.
Insert at least two to four anti-rotation keys.
Verify all O-rings are installed in the connections.
Pick up 36” wellhead housing joint and make up to the 36” casing string.
Record casing and wellhead assy weight.
Remove master bushing and install 36” wellhead housing adapter into rotary table
Lower 36” housing into rotary table.
Unlatch 36” CART and lay down on pipe deck
Rig down 36” handling equipment
Install a key-slot plate, bowl and slips on top of 36” wellhead housing.
Rig up for run inner jetting/drill-ahead string.
Run the inner jetting/drill-ahead string (in stands) inside 36” casing.
Use maximum torque on all connections
Make up 36” housing drill-ahead to internal jet/drill-ahead string.
Land drill-ahead in the 36” wellhead housing
Check that there is no debris inside of the 36” wellhead housing.
Record jetting assembly weight prior to landing it.
Paint white vertical stripe line above on the drill-ahead tool and 36” wellhead housing to reference rotation of the tool sub
sea.
With ROV, verify proper space out. If space out is confirmed by ROV, proceed to latch CADA into WHH
Pick up the 36" string
With ROV, verify proper space out (approx. 4” to 8”) of the bit below the jet shoe and motor operation.
Lower the 36” casing and jetting/drill-ahead assembly to position the support ring
in front of the Mudmat
Collapse split retainer ring to lock Mudmat on 36” casing
Pick up to verify the conductor is locked into the Mudmat
Install bull-eyes on 36” wellhead housing and note its angle reading and direction
Lift 36” casing and string assembly to verify zero reading on slope indicator
Remove bull plugs from the top of the tool. Remove the safety lock key.
Lift up the 36” casing and jetting/drill-ahead assembly and skid back trolley
Record casing and string assembly weight.
Lock the rotary and TDS to ensure no rotation of landing string
Run the entire 36” casing and jetting/drill-ahead assembly to waterline
Run 36” casing and jetting/drill-ahead assembly with landing string to approx. 30m. above
mud line, following the string with ROV.
Fill landing string every 5 stands.
Space out landing string to avoid a connection during the first 20 meters of jetting and to reduce the number of connections
during all jetting operation
Adjust rig position as required.
Slowly lower the 36” casing drive shoe to the mud line on the compensator.
Confirm correct position before tagging seabed.
Lower casing with minimum flow rates to avoid bit nozzles plugging until it takes weight and hold this weight for about 5
min. to determine the competent mud line.
Record this depth as competent mud-line depth.
Check bull-eyes when the competent mud-line is tagged.
Check rig DRAFT at time of tag.
Jet 36” structural casing following jetting engineer instructions
Start jet with sea water with reduced flow rate of 1000 l/min
Never exceed maximum WOB (80% buoyed weight of casing jetted ).
Increase pump rate to the optimum value.
With ROV monitor seabed for return around the 36” casing and progressive penetration by marks painted on 36” pipe.
Pump 50 bbl Hi-Vis pill every 15 meters without stopping pumps, or more frequently if required.
With ROV monitor bull-eye on WH each connection to ensure the inclination remain less than 1,5°.
Work 36” casing up and down and keep moving if required in order to reduce friction.
Maintain the WOB below maximum set-down weight limit for 36” casing.
If return around the 36” casing is detected, reduce ROP and pump Hi-Vis pill to clean 36” casing x jetting string annulus.
While jetting last 10m, locate the ROV to monitor the position of wellhead housing in relation to the seabed (final 36”
Wellhead housing stick-up from seabed approximately 2 m)
When 36” casing is in place, circulate a Hi-Vis pill and continue circulating until it clears the
36” CP x jetting annulus.
Check the final wellhead angle and direction of tilt with the ROV.
Hold the casing in place min. 1 hours to develop skin factor with release based upon final
skin friction that shall be greater than pipe weight
Let casing soak with compensator open (paint DP at rotary table for reference)
Check bull-eye with ROV periodically.
Slack off the weight of the casing.
While slacking off the weight ensure the casing string is stable.
The section hole will be drilled riser-less using seawater with hi-vis sweeps for hole cleaning to
the programmed shoe setting depth. Section TD must be adjusted for the length of casing on
board and about 10 m of rat hole.
The section hole must be drilled at controlled penetration rate with lightweight and fast rotary
avoiding angle development. Well-bore inclination should not exceed 1.5 deg.
The section will be drilled with DHM and MWD/PWD tools (see BHA paragraph). APWD data
shall be used monitor (real time) the bottom hole annulus/drill string pressure.
Drilling parameters:
DEPTH INTERVAL CIRCULATING ROTARY WEIGHT ON BIT
RATE OF PENETRATION (m/hr)
(meters) RATE (l/min) REVOLUTION (rpm) (tons)
JET structural casing 3000-4000 DHM As required
2500-4500
Drill 26” hole DHM + 40 (TDS) As required Controlled ROP at max 20
(660 – 1200 gpm)
One reserve pit of kill mud (see “Mud Programme”) will be available in case a shallow gas or
water flow is experienced. In this case, displace hole with mud at required density.
Keeping pumps on is recommended for all upward pipe movements (i.e. making connection
and trips) in order to minimise swabbing effect.
Large bit nozzles should be used (4 x 20/32”), since a higher pump rate can be achieved during
dynamic killing operations.
At section TD sweep hole with Hi-Vis bentonite pill and displace it (200% of hole volume) with
1.32 s.g. Pad Mud.
Sequence of operations:
All following operations will be supervised from Well Head Engineer and Directional/Jetting
Engineer, a pre job meeting is suggested in order to work in safety and improve the
coordination between all parties involved. Operative procedure to follow shall be discussed and
finalized on rig site.
Release the Drill-Ahead inner/jetting string from 36” housing running tool as per wellhead
supplier procedures.
After release CADA rotate the string as soon as possible to confirm the string is free from CADA tool
Drill 26” hole to 20” casing shoe setting depth with sea water and Hi-Vis sweeps.
Drill the first stand below casing shoe with reduced parameters to avoid washing in proximity of casing shoe
Motor drill without surface rotation at slow pump rate (~2500 l/min) until the bit is 5-10 meters below the shoe.
Initial rotation with stabilizer inside casing should be limited to 20-30 RPM
Pump 50 bbl Hi-Vis pills every ½ stand or more frequently if required.
Use light weight to control hole verticality
Paint white band around the pipe after 10 m drilled, for reference during wiper trip to mud line.
The depth must be adjusted for the length of casing tally, 3 m of stick-up (HP housing) and for about 10 meters of rat hole.
Take directional survey every stand. Frequency of surveys can be reduced in case of straight hole tendency.
In case of annulus loading (high ECD), reduce ROP and pump Hi-Vis more frequently. If ECD remains high, stop drilling
and circulate hole clean
In case of annulus unloading (low ECD), stop drilling and flow check well
ROV monitor for gas
At section TD sweep hole with 300 bbl Hi-Vis pill and displace hole volume (200% of hole volume) with 1.32 sg pad mud
POOH 26” bit to 36” casing shoe (pumping out).
If drag is experienced, pump out with 1.32 sg pad mud.
Monitor the hole for flow until the bit is out of hole.
Pay attention when the stabilizers enter the casing shoe.
Minimize any possibility of swabbing.
Run in hole 26” bit back to TD checking for drag and fill
At bottom sweep hole with Hi-Vis pill and displace hole volume (200% of hole volume) with 1.32 sg pad mud or heavier if
needed.
POOH 26” bit to 10m below sea bed.
If drag is experienced, pump out with 1,32 pad mud.
Monitor the hole for flow until the bit is out of hole.
Pay attention when the stabilizers enter the casing shoe
POOH bit to wellhead. Wash the wellhead with the bit if needed.
Perform 15 minutes flow check with ROV
POOH bit and BHA and rack back
Download memory from LWD BHA

The study has highlighted some anomalies and unconformities around the area. The vertical
projection of the well proposed location intersects a fault at a depth of about 1492 m msl (1516
m RKB) that do not represent a significant hazard for drilling operations.
Another fault affects the vertical projection of the location at a depth of about 2202 m msl (2226
m RKB) in the 17 ½” section; at the top of the fault, located along the R5 unconformity, a
possible fluid accumulation is foreseen (the gas occurrence probability is moderate).
There are no records of shallow gas or water flows during the drilling of the offset wells,
Bathymetry
Hole stability
Hole stability issues were reported in South Dixcove1 well (gumbo shales have been
experienced in the top sections and a general shale instability has been reported in all the well
sections).
Both these wells utilised a water based drilling fluid that emphasised the reactive shale
instability problem.
Sankofa-1A was drilled with Low Toxicity Oil Based mud and no problems regarding hole
stability have been reported.
Hole cleaning
Hole cleaning issues were reported in 12-1/4” section of WCTP-2X well (several attempts of
string pack off due to bad hole cleaning).
It is important to keep the hole clean as much as possible pumping and circulating sweeps.
Torque and drag trends at surface will also be used to give indicative measurements of efficient
hole cleaning.
Low ROP
In some reference wells, a ROP drop issue occurred, due hard and abrasive thin layers
interbedded with soft shale causing a dramatic drop of the rate of penetration below 3000 m.
A bit optimization is strongly required for the bottom sections of the well.

4.6.3 EXEMPTIONS
The 9 5/8” production casing (contingency) is not verified in according to our collapse policy
(column full empty).
In these cases it’s used a exemption rule named "Above/below Packer” that it's enough
restrictive. This rule foresee the packer set 100 m above shoe, packer fluid level (last phase
mud weight) will drop until an equilibrium with pore pressure at perforations depth considered
equal to 0.3 kg/cm2 x 10m. Gas gradient pressure in front of perforations. Outside casing has
been considered mud weight gradient.

Care should be taken to ensure that once the displacement starts it should not be
stopped until the LTOBM is on surface.
Displacement procedures should be followed in order to minimize interface
volumes.
Ensure the mud is conditioned for optimum hole cleaning
Monitor and evaluate all the solid control equipment daily
Maintain fluid properties as per program
Mud in the riser is cold and viscous. Break circulation carefully to avoid excess
surge pressure
Use VERSATROL to control HTHP fluid loss

wall shear stress for the displacing fluid on the narrow side of the annulus should be greater
that its yield stress;
try to keep the velocity of the interface between two fluids on the wide side not
higher than on the narrow side.
Volume is calculated with 30% excess on theoretic annulus volume. This volume is only to evaluate the quantity to ship on board.
The real volumes during the operation will be calculated basing on calliper + 10% of hole section annulus volume + casing overlap
annulus.
The cement gel strength is measured by Static Gel Strength (SGS). Critical Static Gel Strength
(CSGS) is the value of gel where the hydrostatic pressure in the annulus is balanced with
formation pore pressure.
The CSGS value may be defined as pressure decay limit, i. e. hydrostatic pressure decreases
below reservoir pressure allowing gas to migrate into the annulus. According to the computed
CSGS value, the severity risk of gas migration can be classified as following.
Some service company uses also another parameter to evaluate the gas migration risk
severity, i.e gas flow potential (GFP), which is a dimensionless value as showed in below table.
The GFP calculation can be made with some suitable software and may be used as an
indication of probability to have a gas flow during WOC for particular well condition.
The following table shows the both CSGS and GFP values at the different critical depth for 13

The phase will be drilled with reduced parameters (2500 l/min – 660 gpm) to avoid washing in
proximity of casing shoe and will be increased slowly to 4400 l/min (1160 gpm) after the first
15m drilled. The operating flow rate range has been calculated in according with Min/Max
operative flow rate (600-1200 gpm) of DD equipment.
The following tables show hydraulic results at the end of hole section:
For the calculation we assumed to use 6½” pump liner (relief valve set at 339 kg/cm 2 - 4824 psi
90% of liner max pressure) and a TFA of 1.227 (n°4 20/32”) in order to have a pressure loss
into the bit around 600psi to 800psi (pressure loss required to work with PowerV).
To obtain the flow rate is necessary to use two pumps at 96 strokes/min each (22.82 l/stk 100%
of theoretical value).

For the calculation we assumed to use 5 ½” pump liner (relief valve set at 473 kg/cm 2 - 6727
psi 90% of liner max pressure) and a TFA of 1.203 (n°8 14/32”) in order to have a pressure loss
into the bit around 600psi to 800psi (pressure loss required to work with PowerV).
To obtain the flow rate is necessary to use three pumps at 69 strokes/min each (16.353 l/stk
100% of theoretical value).
