Design Thinking

Weight-O-Connect
App integrated Smart Weighing Machine
Preprocessing
The team listed all possible places where a weighing machine can be used and came up with
ways to deal with problems associated with usual weighing machines in most of them.
The places were:

● Clinics/Hospitals
● Academic /Sports
● Travel

Empathizing
Next, we divided our team into teams with 3 people representing users(Vagesh as a traveler,
Harsha as a student, Zohan as an Diabetic patient).
1.Traveller:

● Weighing machines are sparsely present

● Constant weight freak
● Checks weight once or twice a week

2.Patient:

● Checks weight once in 2 days

● Difficult to stand for longer durations
● Dizziness with medicines
● Depressed due to weight

3.Student

● Checks weight once in a month

● Adventurous
● Wants to gain weight due to less BMI

Define

Next we tried finding reasons for all the solutions obtained by brainstorming
The product could be made cheap by using self sustaining material or using solar power
The app was thought of to include the provision of providing the user tips on his/her health, it
could be made able to access other apps’ data.
Encouragement could be provided by messages sent to the user, comfort could be provided by
adding features such as a chair for fat people and reminders through the app.
The app can also be made to provide feedback to the user.
Ideate
Design:

● Circular

Material

● Aluminium casing
● Piezoelectric sensor on the plate

App:

● QR code
● Reminders
● Sleep pattern
● Motivational content
● Food suggestions
● Online consultation(Doctor or gym instructor)

Attachments:

● Weighable chair
● Standing support

Prototype

We used user driven prototyping by assigning the following roles

Zohan- diabetic patient
Harsha-Student
Vagesh-Traveller
Rakesh-Weighing machine
Thribhuvan-app
Gaurav-designer
Tanya-observer

Constructive criticism obtained:

1. Predefined data for optimization

2. Less data usage
3. Personalized food suggestions
4. Exercise suggestions
5. Size of chair should be increased
Test
The results were as follows
I like:

● The database created for the mean values

● Suggestive gym ratings
● Chair provided with the machine
● The ‘ALERT’ button feature which finds nearby hospitals in case of emergencies

I wish:

● I get offers for supplements

● It would be more socially connected

● The machine had a more comfortable seat

What if

● I could access the database without my phone

● The machine could be integrated with other treatments to generate a combined
report
● I could order supplements on the app.

Conclusion:
A Well appreciated design by users. Economical and Feasible Product for all the three specific
users.
Compromise has been made for non Application users in terms of data related features.
Dissecting the design process into various important stages, we thus devised this product
actionable and user friendly.
