Mr. António Guterres
Executive-Secretary
United Nations
405 East 42nd Street
New York, 10017, USA

Dear Mr. António Guterres

I want to express my opinion  about the negative effects of technology on the environment.
Technological advances have generated positive effects on society in the face of
modernization, but they have  caused irreparable damage to the nature, due to the
consumerism culture that has been exhibiting for decades and that causes natural resources
to be depleted. The impact of technological progress is reflected in the high pollution
produced by the disposal of low-durability products, and it is also evident that civilization
has displaced nature, causing climat changes and the extinction of many species.
I consider  necessary to  think about  the effects of global warming, population growth and
the cases of natural resources, which are the negative result of all these advances that
technology has generated. If current trends continue, consumption levels will increase and
adverse effects on the environment will not stop.
It is necessary  for the United Nations (UN) to take measures in this regard and contribute
through a climate policy, as an agreement between countries, to implement measures,
bearing in mind sustainable development as a strategy to reduce environmental impact and
promoting a technological ecology, capable of innovating and transforming the reality that
afflicts us. The environment requires immediate solutions to mitigate the effects that have
been generated so far.

Sincerely,

Cristian Camilo Velez.
