REFLECTION
"Climate change is no longer some far-off problem; it is happening here, it is happening

now." stated by Barack Obama, 44th President of the United States of America. The change is

now, and everyday it slowly progress that we are blindly to see as citizens that living here on

earth. The phenomena that is happening right now -- Covid19 crisis, Australian Wildfires, Taal

Volcano eruption are part of the effects of climate change and global warming -- it contributes

to the effect of climate change and the drastic change of the temperature and the unknown and

unforsee changes of weather are one of the factors of climate change.

I questioned myself, There are movements about the climate change and people do

activities for the ecosystem but why it is still not enough? Upon realizing it now with the Covid

19 crisis, If me myself is doing isolation but my neighbor is not doing the same preventive

measures that I'm doing probably the effect would lessen but will not be gone easily. In putting it

into about climate change, if our countrymen is not doing the same efforts for the environment so

it would not have a great effect back to mother nature. So the bottomline of is that it it takes an

individual inorder to make great waves inorder to influence others. Not only, leaders should do it

but all of us that here living on earth.

REFLECTION
Save the oceans, of all the many population of the ocean are the fishes, turtles, mammals

and many other sea creatures. May it be known or unknown. But what are the things that stopped

them from multiplying or what are the causes of their death? this project of STS made us reflect

on a simple trash might end up the lives of our Sea Creatures.

Our Professor, Mr. Cagalitan in STS, not only him teaching us about science and

technology but this time he teaches us how to preserve our Ocean by widening our thoughts and

understanding the causes of the death of our Turtles. This project is about making a shirt that

gives awareness to the ocean and giving it to the less fortunate people. This project made me

more attracted to our nature and preserving our oceans. So what can I say, SAVE THE OCEAN,

SAVE THE TURTLES.

REFLECTION

Sea turtles have an important role in the marine environment Just like grass lawns, the
seagrass needs to be cut short. Sea turtles help to maintain the balance of the marine ecosystem,
mainly the health of the grass beds and coral reefs. It is beneficial to other marine animals that
are higher in demand (e.g. shrimps and tuna) because their environment is now more suited for
development and breeding. Without healthy seagrass beds, reproduction of these animals will not
take place successfully and the entire food chain will be affected, eventually causing the supply
of food sources for humans to decline. Sea turtle eggs provide nutrients to the beach and the
vegetation on the beach (dune vegetation). With stronger dune vegetation, the roots and plants
can hold the soil better and prevent soil erosion, benefiting the ecosystem altogether. Though sea
turtles have been living and thriving in the world’s oceans for 150 million years, they are now in
danger of extinction largely because of changes brought about by humans. If we alter the oceans
and beaches enough to wipe out sea turtles, will those changes make it difficult for us to survive?
And if we choose to do what’s necessary to save sea turtles, might we save our own future?

That is why me and my groupmates decided to have this as a concept for the shirt because
saving turtles are also saving the world by saving the world we are also saving turtles everyday.
Turtles Help protect endangered nesting sea turtles and their eggs by adopting a nest of sea turtle
hatchlings for yourself or your loved ones. Your contribution will ensure nesting beaches and
baby sea turtles are safe from predators, poachers, rising sea levels and other threats. Us citizens
of this world become conscious and responsible seafood consumer by asking where and how
your seafood was caught. Choose seafood caught in ways that do not harm or kill turtles. Also us
Lasallian students can Participate in coastal clean-ups and reduce plastic use to keep our beaches
and ocean clean. Trash in the ocean can harm sea turtles and other creatures that live there. That
is why our shirt reminds each person to be responsible to their actions that it will not cause harm
to others especially to the world and to the turtles that helps our favorite seafood more best. We
hope that people will make change and help each other to save the world and have a peaceful and
clean environment.

REFLECTION

EARTH, OUR HOME planet, is a world unlike any other. The third planet from the sun,
Earth is the only place in the known universe confirmed to host life.
With a radius of 3,959 miles, Earth is the fifth largest planet in our solar system, and it's
the only one known for sure to have liquid water on its surface. Earth is also unique in terms of
monikers. Every other solar system planet was named for a Greek or Roman deity, but for at
least a thousand years, some cultures have described our world using the Germanic word “earth,”
which means simply “the ground.”
Human society is in jeopardy from the accelerating decline of the Earth’s natural life-
support systems, the world’s leading scientists have warned, as they announced the results of the
most thorough planetary health check ever undertaken.
From coral reefs flickering out beneath the oceans to rainforests desiccating into
savannahs, nature is being destroyed at a rate tens to hundreds of times higher than the average
over the past 10m years, according to the UN global assessment report.
The knock-on impacts on humankind, including freshwater shortages and climate
instability, are already “ominous” and will worsen without drastic remedial action, the authors
said.
“The health of the ecosystems on which we and other species depend is deteriorating
more rapidly than ever. We are eroding the very foundations of economies, livelihoods, food
security, health and quality of life worldwide,” said Robert Watson, the chair of the
Intergovernmental Science-Policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (Ibpes).
“We have lost time. We must act now.” So our group decided to give some shirts related in the
climate so that we can speak out our intentions that we must help our mother earth especially in
the ocean.
I always thought it was better to receive than to give, but when my family went to donate
clothes and other items to the homeless shelter, I realized that it’s better to give than to receive.
Doing things for others - whether small, unplanned acts or regular volunteering - is a powerful
way to boost our own happiness as well of those around us. The people we help may be
strangers, family, friends, colleagues or neighbours. They can be old or young, nearby or far
away.

REFLECTION

Water pollution is one of the main environmental issues we are facing today. Prevention
is the only solution to water pollution. While mitigating water pollution may seem an impossible
subject to tackling, there are a lot of different things that can be achieved by the average
individual. Water is a life-giving resource and that reason is enough for everyone to take
measures to prevent water pollution.

Though sea turtles have been living and thriving in the world’s oceans for 150 million
years, they are now in danger of extinction largely because of changes brought about by humans.
If we alter the oceans and beaches enough to wipe out sea turtles, will those changes make it
difficult for us to survive? And if we choose to do what’s necessary to save sea turtles, might we
save our own future?

Something to think about…

In the mythology of India the survival of the sea turtle ensures the survival of the world.
The Indian myth states that the earth rests on the back of three elephants. These elephants in turn
stand on the shell of a giant sea turtle which swims in an infinite sea. It is believed that if the sea
turtle disappears the world will end.

Sea turtles are becoming more and more endangered as time goes on and is something
that really needs to be changed. Millions of sea turtles used to inhabit the sea now most probably
only a fraction of them are still around. Humans are partly the cause of this because we hunt
them for food and profit. It is unbelievable that people can kill such beautiful creatures just for
their personal benefit. Humans are not the only reason sea turtles are facing extinction, but we
are the main reason. The beauty of these ever-eternal beings that roam our seas, oceans, and
beach sides live a long life; they embody a peaceful heart and a simple way of life. We humans
may learn a thing or two from these creatures, their gentle nature teaches me respect, and to live
flawlessly and drift with the current of life.

This project is very purposeful because it does not only create awareness of water
pollution and marine life, it also helps those needy people have a decent shirt. We are the
instruments for change. Let us be the change we want to see in the world.

REFLECTION

Our planet earth is continuously changing. Mother Earth has been experiencing crucial
changes since the Ice Age and, more specifically, the hallmark in world history, the Industrial
Revolution. Today, human and animal species are experiencing numerous environmental
problems that pose a dire threat of extinction. These environmental concerns range from harsh
climate changes, global warming, air, land and water pollution, acid rain, ozone layer depletion,
depletion of natural resources and deforestation to endangered plant and animal species.
We are tasked to give tshirts where we placed our original design that talk about saving
the environment. We’ve come up with saving the turtles kind of design because we all know that
using of plastics, throwing it anywhere might affect not only the turtles but also every creatures
even on land. Through this, when we give out these shirts, we also educate the people of proper
segregation and avoidance of single use plastic. We are able to inform them of what is going on
in our environment and also to give awareness to people. This does not only apply to them but
also to us students that we know better about what is going on in the environment. This is also to
alarm us that we should help in preventing enviromental issues and do some actions about it.

Everyone has a vital role to play in creating awareness in order to awaken the masses to
the gravity of environmental problems and working on their solutions. People should be
encouraged to save the environment. This could be done by putting up posters and banners in
neighborhood, school, college or workplace; organizing environmental awareness campaigns,
getting t-shirts or caps made with environmental awareness slogans written and spreading the
word. Persuade people to participate in attempts to reduce global warming.

Through these acts, we can save our planet from extinction. Every small act can make a huge
difference. Immediate precautionary measures have to be put into effect before Mother Earth
starts cleansing herself of anything that is creating an imbalance.
