Cleanliness Campaign
SMK Tasek recently carried out a cleanliness campaign on 5 July 201_ between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. The
theme of this campaign was 'Keep the School Clean and Green'. The campaign was launched by the District
Education Officer, who also called upon the students to make the campaign a success.
The campaign aimed to create an awareness among students about their role in keeping the school clean and green.
In addition, the campaign aimed to instil values such as responsibility and accountability among students so that they
will do their part in keeping the school and its surroundings clean.
The campaign encompassed a variety of activities. An assembly was held a week before to explain the
objectives and activities of the cleanliness campaign.
The campaign also saw students turning out in large numbers and participating with great zeal and enthusiasm.
Students were divided into groups. While some groups cleaned the school premises and classrooms, others
collected rubbish and put up posters in the canteen and classrooms. The teachers were also there to give a helping
hand.
By the end of the campaign, the participants had collected ten bags of garbage which included discarded
plastic bottles and containers, gum wrappers and paper. The school grounds looked spick and span after the
campaign. Judging from the gleeful smiles on the faces of all the participants, the campaign was definitely a success.

Haze occurs when dust, smoke and other dry particles cause the air quality to decline. Every year, hazardous smog
blankets large parts of the country, obscuring everything in sight. Haze also has insidious effects on people's health.
However, by taking certain precautions, we can prevent health problems caused by the haze. It is better to be safe
than sorry.
One of the best ways to avoid health problems caused by the haze is to remain indoors and refrain from outdoor
activities. Going outdoors means inhaling more harmful particles and pollutants from the air. This can cause
coughing and throat irritation. It is also advisable to keep yourself hydrated by drinking plenty of water.
Wear a face mask if you do have to go outdoors. It will stop dust particles from entering the body via the nose and the
mouth. Invest in high-quality masks that filter airborne particles from the air you inhale. Prolonged exposure to haze can
cause health issues to escalate. Children and the elderly are more susceptible to severe health problems caused by
haze.
Wash your hands and face regularly because every time you are outdoors you are exposed to toxins from the haze.
These toxins can be absorbed by the skin. Washing helps to clear away the toxins. When indoors, keep all the doors
and windows closed. Turn on the air conditioner to reduce the amount of pollutants and to improve indoor air quality.
If you are having trouble breathing, or experience health problems that do not go away, it is advisable to see a doctor.
Since haze is a recurring phenomenon with no end in sight, we must take precautionary measures because
prevention is better than cure.
