INTRODUCTION

Hello everyone. Good morning grade 5 pupils. Hope you are all well. I am Maam Veronica M. Rollon,
Grade 5 Math teacher of Lingunan Elementary School. Welcome to Day 2 of the Valenzuela Live in
Mathematics 5. I am very much happy to have you here, excited to give you new Math lessons. So just
sit back and relax and enjoy learning at the comfort of your own home.

Slide 2

In today’s lesson you will be able to learned;

1. use divisibility rules for 4, 8, 12, and 11 to find the common factors.

2. identify the numbers divisible by 4, 8, 12, and 11.

3. solve routine and non-routine problems involving divisibility rules for 4, 8, 12, and 11

Motivation:

READ THIS NEWS ITEM:

Since President Rodrigo Duterte placed Metro Manila under "community quarantine" on March 12,
millions of relief packs have been distributed by state agencies, local governments, companies, non-
government organizations, and individuals.

Mrs.Marikit Reyes, a businesswoman donated canned goods to the families in need of Barangay
Lingunan amidst the enhanced community quarantine due to the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19)
outbreak.

She bought 5 boxes of canned goods and wanted each family to receive an equal share.

Would you like to know what Mrs. Marikit did?

Slide 4

Mrs. Marikit recalled her lesson on divisibility test.

Do you still remember the divisibility rules in the previous topics?

Slide 5

What do you mean by divisibility?

Divisibility is the property wherein a whole numbers can be divided by another whole numbers , the
quotient of which is again another whole number without any remainder.
Slide 6

Mrs. Marikit will distribute 784 canned goods to the families affected. Can each family in
Lingunan received 4 canned goods?

Slide 7
How do we know if a number is divisible by 4 without actually dividing it?

A number is divisible by 4 when the number formed by the last two digits of the number is divisible by 4.
A number ending in two zeros is also divisible by 4

Slide 8

The last two digits of 784 is 84 if we divide 84 by 4 the answer is 21. So it means that 784 is divisible by
4.

Slide 9

Which of these numerals are divisible by 4? Why?

432 208 218 360 500

Slide 10

What if Mrs. Marikit decided to give 8 pieces of canned goods, will each family get an equal share? Is
784 divisible by 8?

Slide 11

How do we know if a number is divisible by 8?

A number is divisible by 8 when the number formed by the last three digits of a number is
divisible by 8. A number ending in three zeros is also divisible by 8.
Slide 12

If we divide 784 by 8 the answer is 98, it means that 784 is divisible by 8

Slide 14

How do we know if a number is divisible by 11?

A number is divisible by 11 when the difference between the sums of the odd and even positioned

digits where the positions are determined from left to right is 0 or is divisible by 11.

Generalization:

How do we know if a number is divisible by 4, 8, 11, and 12?

 A number is divisible by 4 when the number formed by the last two digits is divisible by 4 or
if the last 2 digits are zeros.
 A number is divisible by 8 when the number formed by the last three digits is divisible by 8 or
if the last 3 digits are zeros.
 A number that is divisible by both 3 and 4 is divisible by 12.
 A number is divisible by 11 when the difference between the sums of the odd and even
positioned digits where the positions are determined from left to right is 0 or is divisible by
11.
