SECTION 09390

FLOOR HARDENER
PART I - GENERAL

1.1 GENERAL REQUIREMENTS

A. Work of this Section shall be governed by the Contract Documents. Provide


materials, labor, equipment and services necessary to furnish, deliver and install
all work of this Section as shown on the Drawings, as specified herein, and/or as
required by job conditions.

1.2 SECTON INCLUDES

B. A. The work shall consist of the non-metallic floor hardener applied onto the
screeded concrete floors of the concrete floor slabs and other related items
necessary to complete the work as indicated in the drawings, described in the
engineering Specifications and in accordance with the manufacture
recommendation.

1.3 SUBMITALS

A. Product Data: Provide details of product description, test performed, cautionary


procedures required during application.

B. Manufacturer's Installation Instructions: Indicate special procedures and conditions


requiring special attention.

C. Manufacturer's Certificate: Certify that products meet or exceed specified


requirements.

D. Samples: Submit two samples of the floor hardener and the curing compound, 300
x 300 mm. in size.

1.4 QUALIFICATIONS

A. Manufacturer: Company specializing in the manufacture of products specified in


this Section with minimum three year documented experience.

B. Installer: Company specializing in applying the work of this Section with

minimum three years documented experience.

PART 2 - PRODUCTS

2.1 MANUFACTURERS

A. Sika (Thailand) Limited

B. Cementaid, BPT Industries Public Co., Ltd.

C. Stonhard USA INC.

D. Or equivalent approved to the Architect.

2.2 MATERIALS

A. Screed: compose as follow:-


One part Portland cement;
Three parts coarse sand;

Five parts random graded gravel or crushed stone of 20mm. size.

B. Hardener:

1. The minimum hardener screed shall be 2 kg per square metre.

2. Hardener shall consist of non-metallic "Color-Crete" granulates having the


apparent density of 1.4, Mobs hardness 7 to 8 steel's relative hardness scale.
The color shall be selected by the Architect.

PART3 - EXECUTION

3.1 EXAMINATION

A. Verify that surfaces are ready to receive work.

B. Beginning of installation means installer accepts condition of existing substrate.

3.2 PREPARATION

A. Protect surrounding work from damage or disfiguration.

B. Vacuum clean existing substrate and damp clean.

C. Seal substrate surface cracks with filler.

3.3 INSTALLATIONS

The non-metallic floor hardener shall be applied by either one of the following
methods in accordance with the manufacturer's recommendation:-

A. Topping method:

The minimum thickness of 5 cm. of screed shall be placed and troweled on the
required floor level prior to the application of non-metallic floor hardener. While
the screed is still wet, the hardener shall be added to it.

B. Monolithic method:

Non-metallic floor hardener shall be applied directly onto the recently laid
concrete substrate, tamped and floated. The application process shall be finished
on the same day upon the covering of the slab.

3.4 PROTECTION OF FINISHED AND ADJACENT WORK

A. Protect adjacent surface not scheduled to receive floor hardener.

B. If applied to unscheduled surfaces, remove immediately by a method instructed by


hardener manufacturer.
