SECTION 03350 - CONCRETE FINISHING

PART 1 - GENERAL

1.1 SCOPE OF SECTION

A. Furnish all labour, materials, Tools and equipment and perform all services and operations
necessary for the complete supply and installation of sand cement screeds to concrete floor
slabs and at places as directed by Engineer.

B. The work shall include but is not limited to:

1. For installation of any flooring to achieve required level for finished floor or roof levels.
2. Roof areas to which roofing tiles, waterproofing membrane, or insulation materials would
be laid.

1.3 REFERENCES

A. ACI 301 - Structural Concrete for Buildings.

1.4 SUBMITTALS FOR REVIEW

A. Submittals are to be carried out in accordance with Technical Preliminaries section 01330.

B. Submit laying recommendation.

C. Allow 14 days for Engineer’s approval.

1.5 MAINTENANCE DATA

A. Submittals are to be carried out in accordance with Technical Preliminaries section 01330.

B. Maintenance Data: Provide data on maintenance renewal of applied screed topping.

1.6 QUALITY ASSURANCE

A. Control sample:

1. Complete a sample of the work in an approved location and obtain Engineer’s approval
before proceeding.

1.7 MOCK-UP

A. Provide mock-up of floor finish under provisions of Technical Preliminaries section 01330.

B. Construct mock-up area under conditions similar to those which will exist during actual placing,
2 m long by 1.5 m wide.

C. Locate where directed.

1.8 ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS

A. Provide facilities for reducing excessive temperature and humidity which may prevent proper
drying of screed.

B. Maintain continuous adequate ventilation commencing one week prior to laying operations and
continue throughout the laying period.

1.9 PRODUCT STORAGE

A. Cement and sand shall be stored separately off the ground in a dry, well-ventilated space.

B. Use cement in rotation within three months of delivery.

PART 2 - PRODUCTS

2.1 GENERAL

A. Portland Cement: As per Section 03300.

B. Sand: Washed dry sand, ASTM 144.

C. Water: Clean, potable and not detrimental to screed.

D. Mixes: Beds: 1 part cement to 3 parts sand. The amount of water shall not exceed 19 litres per
50kg bag of cement.

PART 3 - EXECUTION

3.1 PREPRATION OF SURFACES

A. Thoroughly clean and ensure that surfaces is dry and structurally sound.

B. Mechanically hack surface to create bond if necessary.

3.2 APPLICATION

A. Screed:

1. To be laid in bays to thickness as shown on the drawings in one layer and shall be trowelled
twice with a steel trowel to produce a smooth and level surface.
2. Apply to thickness as shown on the drawings in one layer, trowelling smooth top surface.
3. Maximum application of screed at a given time will be 25 sq.m.

B. Joints:

1. Joints in structural sub-floor should be continued through full depth of screeds at same
centres.

C. Remixing:

1. No mix shall be reconstituted after completion of laying and then only light traffic for a
further 10 days.

D. Protection:

1. Allow no traffic on screed until 4 days after completion of laying and then only light traffic for
a further 10 days.

2. Lay suitable protection in areas where other trades are working.
