Welcome Remarks
Hello and Welcome to the University of the Cordilleras Integrated School Senior High School! I am
formally welcoming you also to the core subject Understanding Culture, Society, and Politics. The core
subject description states that this is a course that uses insights from Anthropology, Political Science,
and Sociology to develop your awareness of cultural, social and political dynamics, and sensitivity to
cultural diversity; provide you with an understanding of how culture, human agency, society and
politics work; and engage you in the examination of the country’s current human development goals.
At the end of the course, you should acquire ideas about human cultures, human agency, society and
politics; recognize cultural relativism and social inclusiveness to overcome prejudices; and develop
social and cultural competence to guide your interactions with groups, communities, networks, and
institutions.

This will serve as our main communication lines in terms of synchronous/asynchronous classroom
modules, announcements, assignments, discussions, quizzes, grades, syllabus, outcomes, files, pages,
submittals, questions, clarifications, and participations.

About your Subject Teacher


I am Mr. Kimberson P. Alacyang, a licensed professional teacher. I am a teacher of the Social Sciences.
I have been teaching in the University of the Cordilleras Integrated School Senior High School for five
years now. I am a graduate of Bachelor of Arts in Political Science at Saint Louis University and acquired
an eighteen (18) units Professional Education at University of Baguio. At present, I am currently finishing
my Master of Arts in Public Administration at Benguet State University.

Subject Format
There must be 10 modules to be completed by students for the term. Modules 1-5 shall be credited for
Midterms Term (1st/3rd/5th Quarter) and Modules 6-10 shall be credited for Finals Term (2nd/4th/6th
Quarter). Performance Checks are integrated in different Modules 1-10. There will be one separate
module for the Culminating Performance Task. There will be activities and total points that shall be
credited as written works/performance checks/performance tasks.

Publishing of modules and lecture videos (including links), powerpoint presentations and
quizzes/assessments to the CANVAS shall be based on the following schedule corresponding to its

The Culminating Performance Task is that there are major socio-cultural, ecopolitical problems/
issues in your actual/virtual community (SITUATION). Identify one that needs immediate action. As a
member of a research and advocacy team of two to four participants (2-4), you were tasked by the
municipal/city mayor to initiate a campaign on the identified issue (ROLE) in your community
(AUDIENCE). Develop a plan of action (PRODUCT) that embodies a program in organizing capacity
building and upscaling activities in the municipality/ city to increase awareness, raise consciousness,
and provide recommendations on addressing such problems. An advocacy campaign (i.e. e-exhibit,
print and e-media). Through your specific, manageable writing mechanics, achievable, realistic,
timeliness, synergy, time-management, openness to change, and overall quality (SMARTESTOO)
(STANDARD) plan of action, the community will be able to respond to such concerns (GOAL).
[Note: The community, at this time of COVID pandemic, could be a virtual community. (PRODUCT/S)
Research can, thus, be done using primary data (through a technology- mediated collection of
information) or secondary data (through uploading of relevant and updated data from state and
non-state organizations/ agencies.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Kindly compile all activities from previous lessons, these will be needed in the
accomplishment of the Culminating Performance Task. The task need not to have to be
accomplished outside of the home/barangay. This Culminating Performance Task Module is a
separate document.

There are tasks that will require you to answer Self-Check/s, Written Work/s, and Performance Check/s
in the Module. Please answer these tasks accordingly as per instruction/s of the Subject Teacher.

As per Department of Education Order Number 8, Series of 2015, in a grading period there is one
Quarterly Assessment but there should be instances for students to produce Written Work and to
demonstrate what they know and can do through Performance Checks or Performance Tasks.

to assess learner’s skills after each unit has been taught.
