Learning Assessment 7.1

Direction: Develop a strategy/school program for community engagement. Describe two

community-building strategies/programs you can implement in a physical or blended class.

A successful plan should incorporate the following:

1. A description of two strategies/programs for community development.
2. Justifications for selecting these strategies.
3. Explanation of the specific types of learners for whom this plan is intended and why it
meets their learning needs.

Program No.1
Community Mentorship

Description
This is a mentorship program that allows community volunteers to mentor students.
Creating this program paved a way for those older community members to be involved in the
lives of the students. We believe there are kindhearted people who wants to spend some extra
time helping students to fulfil their dreams; enhances skills in arts, music, or sports, mastering
mathematical concepts, even simple reading and writing for kids who wants to join such plan.
We might even find someone who is willing to take the challenge in order to gain experience
helping her/him for professional expectations, such project will benefit both the students and
the volunteer.
On the designated day and time during the week, the learners can meet with their
1
mentors 1 or 1 2 hour every subject and will be done in the gymnatorium, either to read a book,
practice mathematical concepts, do painting or shoot baskets. The only place the community
officials can offer is the gymnatorium.
The schedule below is based on the agreement made by the volunteers and the
students who are joining forces to attain change.

Justifications
The common problem encountered in school after the pandemic was students’
learning deficiency. In fact, there are high school students who can’t do simple multiplication
and division. Imagine high student who can barely answer mathematical expressions using
the basic operation is indeed a stain to any academic institution. There are several students
who cannot even properly read and spell-out. In the first month of face-to-face classes,
teachers are seen to be struggling dealing with the low learners, leaving them with no option
but to leave them behind since they need to proceed with another course material. In line with
these facts, the project ‘community mentorship’ is set to help students and teachers who are
experiencing academic dilemma. This program is ought to amend students who can’t read
and deal simple math, aiming to enrich their vocabulary, master basic mathematical concepts
and enhance talents in different fields like sports and arts.

Beneficiary
The said program is deliberately planned for all the students who need mentorship,
those students who are academically struggling regardless of their grades or ages. All
students are allowed to join the program because there will be no registration fee, considering
the less fortunate individual. This program is expected to meet learners need in different areas
of their deficiency, seeking for their improvement.

Program No.2
Technological Literacy Tutorial –Program

Justification:
Today's generation was brought up in the twenty-first century where
technology is more advanced. In reality, some students are unfamiliar with technologies,
applications, and websites, and they also lack digital ethics. This is why students must learn
21st-century skills at an early age, particularly in using technology and cultivating creativity. It
will prepare them for the modern world, enabling them to compete globally and be lifelong
learners. However, we cannot simply provide them with gadgets; we must also provide them
with the necessary guidance and support in order for them to properly use and appreciate
technology. This program is well-suited to address these technological education gaps.

Description:
This program must be run by eligible community members –volunteered Sangguniang
Kabataan, Information Technology or Computer Science students, and any other qualified
individuals. These volunteers should be eligible to teach digital and technological literacy to
students. They may teach how to use Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and any other
technology tools that are helpful in academic activities. They could also teach how to make
google accounts and explain how to use emails appropriately. Students should also be taught
how to find reliable source and how to assess the credibility of those sources. The tutorial can
be done every Saturday in at least 2-hour session that will allow students cultivate their critical
thinking skills and technological skills.
This table depicts the tutorial program's progression and sample topics,
Grade Level Schedule: November Topic
Grade 7- 8 1st Saturday creating google account and its use
7:00- 9:00
Grade 9- 10 1st Saturday digital ethics

9:00- 11:00
Grade 11- 12 1st Saturday MS office application
1:00- 3:00

Beneficiary:
This program is intended for all senior and junior high school students. Secondary
students are better suited to being introduced to technology. Students should learn how to
use technology to apply it in real-life situations. Furthermore, introducing it in high school will
better prepare students for college and future jobs. Being technologically literate improves
one's ability to learn and explore and contributes to a more stimulating learning environment
and better access to information. Students must be capable of obtaining, evaluating, and
communicating information using technology.

Please read the following questions carefully and answer them in your community-building
plan.

A. What effect does the community have on the physical learning environment?
Environment of the community directly influences students learning. A peaceful
community constituent good ambiance that surrounds the whole school thus effective
learning will be much possible. Minimizing community distractions will help students to
focus on their learning, how could a learner learn when there is chaos elsewhere in their
surrounding? How could a student learn when there are police trying to put a drug addict
on jail? How could a teacher freely teach if there are NPA that keeps on bothering them?
Community members have a huge impact on the physical learning environment of the
students because their behavior affects students’ perspective, for example when we talk
about gender issues, a gay student who refuses to attend school because she is being
thrown by hatred and heavy criticism, this alone affects her psychological aspect, how
could she attend school when on her way she is exposed to different form of
discrimination? A community with peace and order reflects confidence for students to
attend school without any hindrances.

B. As a future teacher, what strategies will you employ to foster a culturally responsive
learning environment?
I think by incorporating rules and regulation agreed by the students, teachers
and the community members foster a culturally responsive learning environment.
Learning about the dos and don’ts will make the relationship to be more productive.
There will be precautionary measure for someone who violates the rules. Setting such
etiquette promote respect for all the members of the institution. Also, discuss popular
culture and include those as content of the classroom. Knowing community’s culture
nourishes what are the community’s value, norms, and tradition, it will make it to
students interests hence they are engage more to participate in such traditions like
fiestas (Binaybayon for Baybay Leyte) students are taught what importance it brings
and why it is being celebrated. Lastly, form relationships among the school faculties
and the different member of the community, a good relationship establishes a good
communication thus form a strong bond. It will be much easier for all of us to work
together, plan for school activities that promotes culturally responsive environment.
