Lesson # 6.1- Design, Selection, Organization, and Utilization of Assessment Strategies

ASSESSMENT

Direction: Observe how your resource teacher assesses students in class. Based on the topic and
learning objectives you have observed, write your five assessment tools and describe how each
assessment tool will be used to assess your future students.

Topic: The Renaissance in England

Learning Objectives:
 Analyze the poem from Renaissance period.
 Compare the two Medieval period and Renaissance period

Assessment Tools Description/Function

1. Venn Diagram The Venn Diagram is useful for comparing and contrasting the
Medieval and Renaissance periods. It will expand students'
knowledge of the topic and provide a clearer vision of what the
Medieval and Renaissance periods have in common versus what
might distinguish them. Moreover, it provides teachers with
information about students’ knowledge of the topic.
2. Group activity and The students are grouped according to each stanza of the poem and
reporting brainstorm about the its message and meaning. They are given 10
minutes to brainstorm, and after, they share and present their ideas,
reflection, and reaction to the whole class. This will help students to
think critically and allows me to observe my students critical
thinking skills.

3. Reflective essay Reflection as an assessment tool will help me monitor if my students

have learned the essence/message of the Renaissance poem. It will
allow students to think and reflect of the significance of the poem.

4. Role playing The students are to dress and act according to Medieval and
Renaissance styles. Role playing is essential for me as the teacher to
assess my students perspectives on the roles and significance of art
during Medieval and Renaissance periods.

5. Short quiz Within a 1/4 sheet of paper, I will do a short quiz to test my students'
understanding of the topic.

Analyze the following questions based on what you have observed in class.

1. What happens if the teacher consistently uses the same assessment strategy?

If the teacher consistently uses the same assessment strategy, the students will know what
to expect, therefore, no longer challenged. Moreover, it does not cater different learning styles of
students. If the teacher is using only a single assessment all the time, it does not accomodate all
learning styles, which will not help students excel and improve their capabilities and skills.

2. How does assessment help students learn, and teachers perform better?

Assessments provide students with feedback on their progress and knowledge of the
lesson. It will help them identify their defaults where they need to improve and do better. For
teachers, assessments also provide data on how well they delivered the subject matter and
whether students are learning from them. It will allow teachers to adjust their teaching
pedagogies and help them improve their instructional skills and professionalism.

3. Which of the assessment strategies has been used more often in class? Why do you think
so?
Based on the six weeks I have been observing the class, I think Process Assessment has
been used more often. I think because feedback is received faster, that allows my resource
teacher to determine if students have understood the learning material because the topic is

applicable in real life, like writing a business letter and grammar. Additionally, I think because
my resource teacher would finish discussing early, and there is ample time for activities.
