Draft Questions on Facebook-Jio Collaboration in India

Questions-1, 2, 4 and 5 have been answered.

1. How has the advent of Reliance Jio impacted the growth of Internet
consumption in India and what future scenario can be depicted.

Reliance Jio with its disruptive strategies was able to provide seamless internet
service at very low cost. There had been a boom in India's internet
consumption, thanks to factors such as easily accessible data and affordable
smartphones. With the growth in Internet services and increasing appetite for
social media, mainly, Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp (both of which were
owned by Facebook), Internet had become an essential part of life in India.
India was poised to have over 900 million internet users due to the increased
penetration of affordable smartphones and cheaper internet plans, and would
also have around 2.1 billion internet-connected devices by 2023

2. Should Jio Platforms aggressively pitch for 5G adoption in India? How will it
benefit the company?

Yes, Jio platforms should aggressively pitch for 5G adoption in India. In the
current world there is always a first mover advantage, Reliance Jio by entering
the market as the first player can make high profits.

Reliance Jio already investing US$40 billion to build its 5G telecom service is an
evidence which supports the above.

4. What are the pros and cons of O2O model for retail business in India? Is this
the best marketing/ operational strategy which Reliance Jio can adopt,
leveraging its collaboration with Facebook?

Pros:

It often happens that when a consumer goes to a store the required items are
not available there, the person then has to roam around and visit other shops
to buy the product. This is very time consuming and irritating as well. The O2O
model can provide a solution to this problem.
With the help of O2O model it is possible to sell products at best prices.

Cons:

Online model of business is completely different from offline model. O2O

being a mixture may at times suffer due to the differences between two
business models.
Eventhough, the connectivity in India has improved but there is still a vast
majority of people, mostly above the age of 60 and those belonging to rural
areas, which are not that good with using smart phones and may not be able
to use Watsapp.

5. What do you understand by Net Neutrality? In the context of investment

made by Facebook in Jio Platforms, what is the likely impact of this duo on net
Neutrality?

Net neutrality- The principle that Internet service providers should enable
access to all content and applications regardless of the source, and without
favouring or blocking particular products or websites.

It can be clearly seen that using WhatsApp as a communication system,

Facebook for social commerce and JioMart for e-commerce, is basically
favouring these products. And as per the definition of Net neutrality favouring
should not be done.
