Abuel BSAC - I JPIA’s Regional Midyear Convention Cagayan de Oro City
MY FIRST SEMESTER RETURN SERVICE EXPERIENCE
As an accountancy student, The Xavier University Junior Philippine Institute of
Accountants (XU-JPIA) has been a home to every struggling and straining individuals. With that being noted, JPIA provides experiences and challenges that hones student’s skills and abilities, wherein it also develops esteem, boosts confidence and mainly help us find ourselves. The 17th Regional Midyear Convention was held at various location in Cagayan de Oro City last September 22 to 24, 2018, the event was an annual gathering of accountancy students from different institutions of Region 10 and Caraga organized by the National Federation. The semiannual gathering featured a diverse set of events that sought to bring out the skills of the participants in both academic and non-academic aspects. This event is a memorable one for me which I truly treasured because this is the first huge event I have joined in my organization. A lot of realizations and goals I have actually set during this time. I realized that this is where I belong, that I wanted to be part of the “my integrity is my reputation” gang. From that day on when I knew what I truly wanted, I began setting goals to attain and achieve that realization. Efforts were doubled and tripled, more sleepless nights, high caffeine intake. These are only some of the many things I needed to undergo and perhaps suffer to. Joining and participating in every event of JPIA has always been the most educational return service I have made, and being with this organization for the past 5 months of my college life has developed a willpower and determination. Willpower and determination to proceed and graduate in the course, willpower and determination to pay back the city for what it has endowed me and willpower and determination to do this through serving the public with genuine and honest heart supported by strong ethics. “Tell me, and I will forget. Show me, and I may remember. Involve me, and I will understand.” It is through reflecting about the actions at work enhances its true meaning. It is through reflecting that I allow myself to step back from all the concrete experiences and recognize that the experience has forged a new way of thinking and that improve on future performance will result. 5/5, the entire experience is fun, amazing and full of learning. I hope that on my next return service I would be able to extend my hand and help others regardless of doing community work for scholarship purposed but because it is really what I would like to do and giving my free time to someone who needs it would put a smile on my face.
