I Scope

This specification defines the minimum requirements for blast resistant doors and
frames. The Process Industry Practice PIP ARS08390 “Blast Resistant Doors, Frames,
and Related Hardware Specification” dated June 2013 in its entirety, except as modified
by this specification, shall constitute the basis of this specification. .

II Conflicts and Deviations

Any conflicts between this document and other applicable Mandatory Saudi Aramco
Engineering Requirements (MSAERs) shall be addressed to the EK&RD Coordinator.

Any deviation from the requirements herein shall follow internal company procedure
SAEP-302.

III References

The selection of material and equipment, and the design, fabrication, construction,
maintenance, and repair of equipment and facilities covered by this specification shall
comply with the latest edition of the references listed below, unless otherwise noted.

IV Modifications to Process Industry Practice PIP ARS08390

The following paragraph numbers refer to Process Industry Practice PIP ARS08390 dated
June 2013, which is part of this specification. The text in each paragraph is an addition,
exception, modification, or deletion to PIP ARS08390 as noted. Paragraph numbers not
appearing in PIP ARS08390 are new paragraphs to be inserted in numerical order.

2.1 (Deletion) Delete in its entirety.

2.2 (Addition) Add ASTM A36/A36M Standard Specification for Carbon


Structural Steel

(Addition) Add ASTM A123/A123M -Standard Specification for Zinc


(Hot-Dip Galvanized) Coatings on Iron and Steel Products

(Addition) Add ASTM F 2927 -Door Systems Subject to Air blast Loadings

(Modification and Deletion) Delete the reference to NFPA 101 - Life Safety
Code. Add a bullet-point reference for SAES-M-100

(Deletion) Delete AWS D1.2/D1.2M - Structural Welding Code - Aluminum.

2.3 (Deletion) Delete the entire reference to DOJ, DOL, and ADA requirements.

4.2.1 (Deletion) Delete in its entirety.

4.4.2 (Deletion) Delete in its entirety.

4.2.2.4.A.1 (Deletion) Delete the statement “registered in the locality where the blast
door(s) is to be installed.”

4.2.2.6 (Addition) Add at the end of the paragraph “for fire rated offshore blast
resistance doors and frame shall follow SOLAS-1974 and IMO FTP Code
requirement.”

4.2.2.7 (Addition) Add at the end of the paragraph “or ASTM F2927.”

4.5.1 (Modification) Revise the paragraph to read as follows “Blast resistant doors
shall be designed for the dynamic loads furnished in Blast Design
Requirements (BDR) Data Sheet (found in SAES-M-009, Appendix A).”

4.5.2 (Modification) Revise the paragraph to read as follows “The performance


category for the blast resistant doors shall be in accordance with Blast
Design Requirements (BDR) Data Sheet, Table A-3 (found in SAES-M-009,
Appendix A).”

4.5.3 (Modification) Revise the paragraph to read as follows “The response


limits and other requirements shall be in accordance with Table 11 of
SAES-M-009.”

4.5.9 (Modification) Replace “the local building code” with “SAES-M-100.”

4.6.1.1 (Deletion) Delete the statement (or aluminum sheet).

4.6.1.6 (Addition) Add at the end of the paragraph “the oversized door shall meet
the requirement of SAES-M-100, Paragraph 715.4.6.2.”

4.6.1.7 (Modification) Replace the reference to “ADA” with a reference to


“SAES-M-100 and ICC/ANSI A117.1.”

4.6.1.8 (Modification and Addition) Change G60 with “G90”. Add at the end of the
paragraph “or plate in accordance with ASTM A36/A36M and galvanized in
accordance with ASTM A123/A123M.”

4.6.2.2 (Modification and Addition) Change G60 with “G90”. Add at the end of the
paragraph “or plate in accordance with ASTM A36/A36M and galvanized in
accordance with ASTM A123/A123M.”

4.6.5.8 (Modification) Replace the reference to “NFPA 101” with a reference to


“SAES-M-100, Section 1008.”

4.8 (Addition) Add New Paragraph 4.8.5 “Only shop coating shall be allowed.
Field coating is not allowed on site except as allowed by paragraph 4.8.4”.

4.9.3 (Deletion) Delete AWS D1.2/D1.2M
