Lesson: Plate Tectonic Boundaries

Prepared by: Angelica C. Camilon

 Differentiate the three types of Plate Tectonic Boundaries.

 Identify what type of Plate Tectonic Boundary presented on the map.
 Develop the value of maintaining good human relationship by applying
the Habit 5 (Seek first to understand than to be understood).

Review: Map the Eight Major Tectonic Plates

Directions: Identify what major plate is shown in the numbered items.

 The Plate Tectonic Theory states that the Earth's solid outer crust
(lithosphere), is separated into plates that move over the molten upper
portion of the mantle (asthenosphere).
 Oceanic and continental plates move relative to each other, typically at rates
of 5 to 10 cm (2 to 4 inches) per year, and interact along their boundaries.
The movement of the plates creates three types of tectonic boundaries:

A. Convergent - the plates move into one another.

B. Divergent - the plates move apart.
C. Transform - the plates move sideways in relation to each other.

encircled item and identify in which major plates the boundary took place.

The Pacific Ring of Fire is one of the evident results of the plate tectonic.
The Ring of Fire is a string of volcanoes and sites of seismic activity, or
earthquakes. Roughly 90% of all earthquakes occur along the Ring of Fire.
Philippines is known to be part of this ring that’s why series of earthquakes are
experienced by our country every year which can cause immense damages.

It is true that energy is neither created

nor destroyed but we know for a fact that the
distribution of energy is scarce since our
sources are very limited to suit all the needs of
man in order to live that’s why we must know
how to be responsible of using limited
resources.
IDENTIFICATION
Directions: Identify what is being described in each items by writing your answers on
the space provided. Choose from the words inside the box provided below.
_____ 1. Used in generating stations and power transmissions to increasing the
voltage as electric current is transmitted. Step up transformers
_____ 2. An installation where electrical power is generated for distribution.
_____ 3. These are smaller wires that carry electricity drawn from high-voltage
transmission system to end-use customers.
_____ 4. A machine that converts mechanical energy to electricity for transmission.
_____ 5. Refers to the bulk movement of electrical energy from generating site.
