Humans exhibit a nearly universal desire to learn and share news from elsewhere,
which they satisfy by traveling, talking to each other and sharing.
Technological and social developments, often driven by government
communication and espionage networks, have increased the speed with which
news can spread, as well as influenced its content.
The genre of news as we know it today is closely associated with the
NEWSPAPER (China--court bulletin) and spread, with paper and printing press (to
Europe).
PH reports 2,357 new COVID-19 cases as total tops 65,000

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, July 18) — The country has recorded another surge of
COVID-19 infections, bringing the total to over 65,000, the Department of Health said
Saturday.

The agency reported 2,357 new cases raising the nationwide tally to 65,304. Of the
total, some 41,464 are active cases or currently ill patients. Ninety percent of these
active cases have mild symptoms, the DOH bulletin said, and nine percent have no
symptoms. Some 0.4 percent are severe cases while another 0.4 are in critical
condition.

The DOH in a separate statement later said that from the new confirmed cases, 1,175
were detected in the last three days while 1,182 were part of the case validation
backlog.

Metro Manila continues to have the most new cases with 1,824 more infections,
followed by Laguna with 105 new infected residents, Cavite with 62, Cebu with 49 and
Rizal with 39 new cases.

The department also listed 321 new recoveries and 113 deaths. Total number of
survivors is 22,067 while death toll is 1,773.

DOH noted that of the 113 new deaths, 40 people or 35 percent died in July, 58 people
or 51 percent in June, 15 patients or 13 percent were in May. Eighty seven deaths were
from Central Visayas, 23 from Metro Manila, one from Calabarzon one from Bicol region
and one from Western Visayas.

The cases were reported by 76 out of 84 COVID-19 testing laboratories, the agency
mentioned.

Meanwhile, the Department of Foreign Affairs announced 21 new confirmed cases


among Filipinos abroad in 65 countries. The total is now 9,001 with 5,321 recoveries
and 634 deaths. No new recoveries or deaths were recorded, the DFA added.

INFORMATIVE SPEECHES An informative speech provides information about a specific subject


to an audience. The aim of an informative speech is to help your audience to understand and to
remember the information you are presenting.

PURPOSE OF INFORMATIVE SPEECHES


 Express the specific purpose as a declarative sentence.
 State the specific purpose precisely.
 Make sure the specific purpose contains only one idea.
 Include words in the specific purpose that show your intent.

PARTS OF INFORMATIVE SPEECH


 INTRODUCTION: gains the attention and the goodwill of the audience
 BODY: presents the main points in an organized pattern and gives supporting information
for the main points.
 CONCLUSION: emphasizes key idea or ideas of the speech and leaves the audience with
greater interest in the topic.

DELIVERING YOUR SPEEC


Any speech will be more effective if it is delivered well.
1) Credibility - A speaker’s credibility is the amount of trust and belief the speaker inspires in
an audience.
2) Enthusiasm - Be enthusiastic about your topic
3) Eye contact - Establish eye contact with your listeners
4) Vocal Variety and Emphasis - Vary your tone, rate, volume, and pitch to emphasize key
points and to make your speech more interesting.
5) Clear Articulation and Enunciation - Be careful not to slur your words.
6) Good Pronunciation - Your pronunciation can either help or hurt your credibility.

PANEL DISCUSSION

 The panelists discuss the issue or topic with each other by asking questions or reacting to

established.
 The leader or moderator closes the discussion and provides a summary of panel
presentations and discussion.
 A panel discussion, or simply a panel, involves a group of people gathered to discuss a
topic in front of an audience, typically at scientific, business or academic conferences, fan
conventions, and on television shows.
How to Conduct a Panel Discussion

2) Planning the Panel Discussion
 Figure out the goals of the panel
