Assignment: Rizal’s Life and Works

Dyna Mae Rose R. Davin

Question: Is R.A 1425 considered a victory for the Catholic Churches?

R.A 1425, as a matter of fact, was repeatedly opposed and unsurprisingly, before was not the
first time that Catholic churches pressured the government into banking a work of art on the
grounds that it is sacrilegious and blasphemous. Many cardinals before also tried to stopped the
congress with their own point and rationale- saying novels of Rizal do contain teachings contrary
to their faith and if, the Law would be triumphant, catholic students may be greatly affected (not
until the Law has been passed successfully). Catholic Churches isn’t victorious as this Law or
Act became promulgated. R.A 1425 is seen as a big hindrance and a problem to them (Catholic
Church) due to those reasons that I have mentioned above. But on the contrary, it is quite
victorious enough (especially to those people who did their all to pass this law) as they became
successful on giving respect and tribute- making Rizal and his novels be widely known to
everybody as he just truly deserve to be studied and be known.
