Student Distance Learning Materials

● Computers: computers will be our primary means of communication and the
way I can access students’ work and progress.
○ No food or drinks by the computer.
● Binder of Language Arts and Math Centers:
○ This resource is meant to be a no-tech reusable resource for students
to practice their skills.
○ Pages are to be left in the plastic sheet protectors. Write on the
plastic sheet protector with a dry erase marker to complete activities
and erase like you would a whiteboard.
○ Small alphabet sets, pen, dice, and eraser should stay in the pouch in
the binder so they are available when needed.
● Green Folder of Language Arts and Math worksheets
● Blank Composition Book: We will be using our blank composition for journal
writing.
● Plastic Toolkit:
○ This kit is for flashcards, cubes, and learning materials.
○ Students from King Kekaulike High School are currently working to
finish making our math kit materials, a pick-up time will be scheduled
as soon as they are completed.
○ Toolkit materials are to be kept together so they can be accessed
easily by students for online lessons and practice.
● Decodable Reader
● Regular School Supply List Materials: dry erase markers, crayons, pencils,
etc.

If you do not have what you need, please reach out to me via email or phone and I
will see what I can do. It would be helpful to get a box, plastic container or tote
for your child to store their supplies in, that way they are all together when it is
time for school. Also, with the lid on it can also serve a work surface in households
with multiple kids trying to find table space.

Distance Learning Expectations

Aloha Families,

I realize that we are all in a tough spot trying to support our children in their
distance learning. For that reason I have kept my schedule flexible to
accommodate for work schedules, supervision, siblings, and helper availability. That
being said, students are required to attend Morning Meeting and their small group
instruction time. If they are unable to do so please reach out to me. Students are
also required to complete all of their assigned activities each day. My goal is to
keep things as user-friendly and fun as possible so that much of the work can be
done independently.

We are using SeeSaw as our learning platform. You will be able to see your child’s
work, check their progress and receive notifications from me through the SeeSaw
Family App. We will also be using the online resources Sora, Zearn, Happy
Numbers and Maui Skills. I will be available throughout the day and can be reached
via SeeSaw, email at melissa.roderick@k12.hi.us, or by phone 727-3939.

I feel privileged to be your child’s kindergarten teacher, and look forward to
making them feel like they are a valued part of my class, even if for right now we
are not all together in my classroom.

Mahalo,
Ms. Roderick
