Theme World Of Self, Family and Friends Topic: Free Time


Learning Objectives At the end of the lesson, pupils will be able to:-
a. say the words in the poem with intelligible pronunciation, rhythm and intonation.
b. write a simple poem about their free time activities with support.

Teaching & Learning Pre-lesson:


Activities 1. Recap previous lesson by asking pupils to name a few free time activities which use the verb
‘play’.
Examples: play the piano, play football, play computer games
2. Write pupils’ responses on the board in bubble map form.
3. Display the poem chart on the board.
4. Get the pupils to talk about the pictures.
5. Read the poem aloud. Pupils listen and repeat.
6. Read the poem in sections. Pupils listen and repeat.
7. Read the whole poem with the pupils.

Lesson development:
1. Next to the ‘play’ bubble map, brainstorm all the other free time activities from the unit.
2. Elicit from pupils what they do on different days to demonstrate the activity.
3. Distribute poem templates to the pupils.
4. Guide pupils to write and illustrate their poems.
5. Go around the class to check and help as pupils are working.

Post-lesson:
1. Pupils name a few free time activities. Write pupils’ responses on the board in circle map
form.Invite pupils to present their poems to the class.
2. Guide them if necessary.
3. Display pupils’ poems around the classroom.
4. Teacher and peer give feedbacks.

Learning Objectives At the end of the lesson, pupils will be able to:-
a. read and understand the sentences by answering correctly at least 2 questions with support.
b. ask 3 basic questions to find out about their partner’s personal information.

Teaching & Learning Pre-lesson:


Activities 1. Mime free time activities from the unit for the pupils to guess.
2. Write them on the board as pupils guess.
3. Mime new activities. (skateboarding, playing badminton) and write on the board.
4. Pre teach healthy and unhealthy.
5. Elicit examples from pupils. (high level)
6. For low proficiency pupils, teacher may introduce healthy and unhealthy activities by
showing flashcards. Pupils name the activities.
7. Write pupils’ responses on the board in tree map form.

Lesson development:
1. Draw pupils’ attention to SB page 66.
2. Play the recording. Pupils listen and read.
3. Elicit if pupils agree with the six points and check understanding of new vocabulary.
4. Focus on the three questions and teach the meaning of ‘How.........’.
5. Practise asking and answering questions with the pupils.
6. Discuss the answers with pupils.
7. Pupils work in pairs.
8. Distribute task sheets to pupils.
9. Pupils ask and answer in pairs.
10. Pupils record their partner’s responses in the task sheets given.

Post-lesson:
1. Guide pupils to report back to the class about their partner.
2. Check pupils’ work and give feedback.
3. Display pupils’ work on the wall.

Extension activity:
1. Pupils sort the pictures into healthy and unhealthy activities.
